BIOGRAPHY

She is a Haitian writer born in Port au Prince. When he was two years old, his

father emigrated to the United States to work in a factory. Two years later, he left

his mother too, and she was in the care of his uncle. At twelve, she emigrated to

the United States in search of his parents and settled in Brooklyn.

She graduated in French literature and

then earned a masters degree at the

University of Brown. At twenty he

published his first work Word, eyes, published his first work Word, eyes,

memory (1994), which followed the

storybook Krik? Krak! (1997) and the

novel Harvest bones.

His works show the back of the island of Haiti and reveal a deep and

fantastic place, without leaving behind, ethnic, economic and political

problems that cross the inhabitants of that country.

It is the first Haitian writer who

writes in English, he lives in the

United States and his work has been

translated into more than ten

languages.
