ASIA1. LOI KRATHONG AND YI PENG FESTIVAL

• Typically combined into one visually spectacular festival

of fire and light.

• When: loi krathong takes place in november. Based on the

lunar calendar.

• Where: being a lanna holiday,

• Best experienced in northern thailand

2. SONGKRAN

• Songkran, the Thai new year and water festival

• Celebrated by throwing buckets of water on friends and

strangers in good-natured fun.

• When: April 13th to 15th .

• Where: Songkran is celebrated to some extent throughout

Thailand, the epicenter is Chiang Mai.

3. PHUKET VEGETARIAN FESTIVAL

• One of the most bizarre festivals in Thailand,

• Discussing the finer points of tofu.

• When: Between September and October; dates change

based upon the Chinese lunar calendar.

• Where: The island of Phuket, Thailand.

• Some celebrations take place in Bangkok.

4. RAMADAN

• No reason to avoid travel during the Islamic holy month.

• Enjoy special foods, markets, and festivals in the

evenings and particularly during Hari Raya Puasa at the

end of the fasting.

• When: Dates change yearly based on the sighting of the

crescent moon.

• Where: Any country with a large Muslim population

including Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and others.

5.CHINESE MOON FESTIVAL• Also known as the Mooncake Festival or Mid-Autumn

Festival, • It is a happy time when friends, family, and lovers spend

time together and exchange mooncakes.• Where: Anyplace with a large Chinese population

including Singapore and other major Asian cities.• When: Dates change, but usually around September.

6. RAINFOREST WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL

• Southeast Asia's largest music festivals,

• It is held in each summer just outside of Kuching, the

capital of Sarawak.

• When: Every year in June or July.

• Where: The Sarawak Cultural Village, located outside of

Kuching.

7. HARI MERDEKA

• Translates to 'Independence Day’

• Celebrations in either Malaysia or Indonesia.

• The day marks both countries' independence from colonial

rule and is celebrated with a parade and demonstrations.

• When: On August 31 in Malaysia.

• On August 17 for Indonesia Independence Day.

• Where: Throughout Malaysia and Indonesia,

including Sumatra.

8. SETSUBUN IN JAPAN

• Celebrated during Japan's Haru Matsuri or

Spring.

• Festival to welcome the beginning of spring.

• Participants throw soy beans to frighten

away evil spirits that could threaten health in

the new lunar year.

• When: February 3 or 4.

Where: In gatherings throughout Japan.

9. HUNGRY GHOSTS FESTIVAL

• Is a Taoist holiday celebrated by Chinese communities

throughout Asia.

• When: Dates change; Always on the 14th day of the seventh

lunar month.

• Where: Any place with a significant Taoist population

including Singapore as well as both Penang and Melaka in

Malaysia.

• Brazil and Chile

• In Chile, Valparaíso rings in

2.FESTIVAL OF THE VIRGEN DE LA CANDELARIA

• Bolivia and Peru

• most beloved religious icons in Bolivia.

3. MULBERRY STREET FESTIVAL

• Held along two blocks of Mulberry Street (between Second

Street & Broadway)

• Festival held in Macon.

• April 1st & 2nd.

4. SANTIAGO A MIL INTERNATIONAL THEATER FESTIVAL

• Festival (Spanish: Festival Internacional Santiago a Mil)

• Is an annual performing arts festival 

• Takes place in January in Santiago, Chile.

• In Chile and includes theatre, dance and music events from

Chile and abroad, performed in the capital city.

 5. VALDIVIA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

•  Spanish: Festival International de Cine de Valdivia.

• Exhibition and competition

• Held annually in the city of Valdivia, Los

Rios region , Chile.

6. INTERNATIONAL POETRY FESTIVAL OF ROSARIO• In Spanish, Festival Internacional de Poesía

de Rosario

• Is a cultural in Rosario, Argentina.

• It includes poetry readings, workshops,

lectures, and stage plays.

• It usually takes place in September at the

facilities of the Bernardino Rivadavia

Culture Center, at Plaza Montenegro, in

downtown Rosario.

7. NATIONAL SEA FESTIVAL

•  Spanish: Fiesta Nacional del Mar

• Held annually at Mar del Plata, Argentina 

• Month of February.

8. Inti Raymi

• Ecuador and Peru

• June 24 to 29, the fiestas of San Pablo, San Juan,

• All merge into one big holiday in the Otavalo area.

• People celebrate with big barbecues, parades, traditional

dances, and bonfires.

9. SOUTHERN CROSS GAMES

• Spanish: Juegos Cruz del Sur were a multi-sport event 

• Held from November 3 to November 12, 1978, in La

Paz, Bolivia, with some events in Cochabamba and Santa

Cruz de la Sierra.  

10. PARAGUAY BICENTENNIAL

• The Bicentennial of the Independence of the Republic

of Paraguay is a group of festivities

• Take place in Paraguay and Paraguayan communities

abroad, on the occasion of the celebration of Independence

of Paraguay from Spanish Empire 

EUROPE1. Carnival, Venice,

Italy (February/March)

• Most famous Carnival in Europe

thanks to its distinctive masks.

• Carnival runs for the two weeks

leading up to Fat Tuesday and is

meant for Christians to indulge

before Lent.

• The Carnival is best known for

the masks.

2. EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL, EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND (AUGUST)

• Takes place in Edinburgh,

Scotland

• Each year for three weeks

around the middle of

August.

• Performing arts in which

artists from all over the

world perform music,

dance, theatre, and opera.

3. OKTOBERFEST, MUNICH, GERMANY (MID-SEPTEMBER TO OCTOBER)

• World’s biggest keg party

• Takes place each year in Munich,

Germany.

• Lasts for 16 days. It opens by late-

September and ends during the first

week of October.

• The festival is held in an area named

Theresienwiese located near Munich’s

 

4. CHRISTMAS MARKETS – ALL OVER EUROPE

• Originated in Germany, Austria, and France, but are now

held all over Europe.

• Each year during the four weeks of Advent, colorful street

markets associated with Christmas pop up in every

European city.

• Some markets open as early as mid-November, while

most open during the first week of December.

5. ST PATRICK’S FESTIVAL, DUBLIN, IRELAND (MARCH)

• Celebrated internationally on March

17.

• Expanded into a 4-day festival.

• The festival is celebrated with

music, a boat race, a treasure hunt,

dancing, and of course, the colorful

parade.

10. FLORIADE WORLD HORTICULTURAL EXPO, VENLO REGION, HOLLAND (APRIL TO OCTOBER)

• Exposition of flowers and

gardening.

• Takes place every 10 years in the

Netherlands.

• Between April 5 and October.

• Each day, there is music, dance,

theatre, and graphic art

performances. 

7. RUNNING OF THE BULLS, PAMPLONA, SPAIN (JULY)

• Is home to the Festival of San

Fermin.

• The festival is most well known

for the Running of the Bulls, a

2600 foot (800 meter) run with

dozens of angry bulls.

• Held each year between July 6 and

14.

8. BASTILLE DAY, PARIS, FRANCE (JULY 14)• La Fête Nationale is celebrated

each year on July 14 and is France’s National Day.

• It is held on the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille.

• The oldest and largest military parade in Europe is held on the morning of July 14 on Champes Elysees avenue in Paris.

• It passes down from the Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde.

9. SZIGET FESTIVAL, BUDAPEST, HUNGARY (AUGUST)

• Held on Obudai Island in

Budapest.

• Sziget Festival is the

largest cultural and music

festival in Central Europe.

• It is held between August 6

and 13.

10. EDINBURGH’S HOGMANAY FESTIVAL (DECEMBER 30-JANUARY 1)

• Is a 3-day winter festival

• Takes place at the end of each

year.

• It starts early in the evening of

December 31. At midnight the

bells ring and people sing the

old folk song Auld Lang Syne.

• The Torchlight Procession takes

place on December 30.

1. TASTE OF THE DANFORTH

• Is a yearly festival held in Toronto,

Ontario, Canada, in

the Greektown area along Danforth

Avenue 

• Period of three days in August.

• This event which

celebrates Greek food and culture.

• This event generally occurs the

second weekend of August.

2.ROCK THE BELLS

• Is an annual hip-hop festival

• Take place in Southern California.

• That festival is covered in depth by a documentary film

also called Rock the Bells.

• It is in mid to late summer.

 3.INTERNATIONAL ELECTROACOUSTIC MUSIC FESTIVAL

• Originally titled the Varadero Spring Festival,t

• It has featured such as Julio Roloff. Juan Blanco created it

with the purpose of presenting Cuban composer’s

electroacoustic and avant-garde works to an international.

4.NATIONAL BOOK FESTIVAL

• The National Book Festival is an

annual American event in Washington, D.C. that

the Library of Congress Center for the Book.

• It is held in Summer at the Walter E. Washington

Convention Center.

• Hosts about 150 authors, illustrators and poets. 

 

5.EDGEFEST

• A yearly outdoor rock concert

festival

• Held on Canada Day in Toronto,

Ontario that primarily

promotes Canadian rock music.

• The festival has featured more than

300 bands in five locations; Molson

Park in Barrie, Ontario, the Ontario

Place Forum, the Molson

Amphitheatre, Downsview Park, and

most recently TD Echo Beach.

• English: Haiti Rum Festival

• Promoting rum and related alcoholic beverages organized

by J'Organise

Hotel in Pétionville, Haiti.

• Is an agricultural machinery

• Exposition held annually in

February indoors at

the Kentucky Exposition

Center in Louisville, Kentucky,

United States. 

• It includes the Championship

Tractor Pull.

8. OISTINS FISH FESTIVAL

• Is a folk festival founded by Lady

St John in the constituency of

Christ Church, Barbados.

• Occurs every Easter for 1 week of

celebration.

• Which includes fish-deboning

competitions, boat races, net

throwing, food, crafts, music, and

dancing.

9. FESTIVAL OF THE BLUEGRASS

• Located in Lexington, Kentucky

• In the bluegrass region of Kentucky.

• The festival takes place the first full weekend of June

each year.

 10. CANADIAN TULIP FESTIVAL

• French: festival canadien des

tulipes; dutch: canadese festival

van de tulp

• Held annually in may in ottawa,

ontario, canada.

• Displaying over one million tulips,

and the largest display of tulips is

found in commissioners park on

the shores of dow's lake.

2.  RAJARANI MUSIC FESTIVAL

• Entrancing performances by well-

known Odissi and Hindustani vocal

and music maestros.

• The temple, often referred to as

the Khajuraho of the east, is famous

for its elaborate erotic sculptured

figurines.

• Where: Rajarani Temple,

Bhubaneswar.

3.  DHAULI-KALINGA MAHOTSAV

• Hosted by the Odisha Dance Academy (ODA) and Art

• It combines martial dance.

• The NIFW operates in the

commercial verticals of retail,

exposure and consultancy for
