Overview

• IN THIS SESSION YOU WILL LEARN:– How to use Facebook as an outreach strategy.– What your audience wants in social media.– Where is social media going?

What is Social Media?

Social media is a fundamental shift in the way we communicate.

In it’s essence, it flattens out the world and gives us access to interact with people we would have never met otherwise.

What if you could?

Engage people through the week?

Hear what’s on their hearts?

Create momentum behind events and vision?

Allow your people to express their faith and involvement with your congregation?

Social Media Priorities for Churches

• Facebook• eNews• Videos• Others– Blogs– Apps– Twitter

Focusing on Facebook as Outreach

Your Facebook page is not a bulletin board, it’s your LIVING ROOM!

Why is Social Media Important in ministry?• It’s an interactive, 2-way conversation• 24/7 connection and response• It’s where your people are• It drives them to your website and church

Focusing on Facebook as Outreach

What should be on your Facebook page?:• About (with link to website, address, map, phone and

service times)• Photos• Events/Mission Trips• Wall posts: dialogue, questions, links

Focusing on Facebook as Outreach

What do Church users want in social media?• Personality – who you are Monday – Saturday?• Relevance – are you talking about current events?• Frequency and Consistency – are you in the living

room?• Information – it’s another place to find reliable

information• Low barrier – somewhere they can point friends

Facebook – The Conversation

• Push vs. conversation

• If you don’t converse, you are noise = you are hidden

• This is how your congregation shares life with each other, and your window into that sharing

• People aren’t “on Facebook” – they are “with friends”
