Native Americans of the Northwest Coast

James Kaliann KortniChance

The Northwest coast Indians lived in the northwest along the Pacific Ocean where

there were a lot of fish.

They had long houses made out of planks.

They carved totem poles to stand in front of their houses. These totem poles told stories of

pride in their people.

They built their houses out of cedar wood and built them on the beach.

There was plenty of

cedar to build their homes and make

their canoes.

They made clothes out

of tree bark.

They also made their clothes out of animal skin. One of animals they used

was bear.

They made their blankets from

cedar bark woven with goat hair.

They roasted fish that they got

from the ocean.

They also ate shellfish, seals and

salmon.

They never ate bread because they never farmed.

Some of the Northwest coast

Indians even caught whales for food.
