How to Participate in aDePaul Quad Live Session

This presentation will walk you through the steps you will need to take to participate in a DePaul Quad Live Session.

Beginning in January 2010, DePaul Live Sessions will be webcast using Wimba Classroom Technology, an online distance-learning program . It is used by some DePaul faculty and staff to teach classes without the geographic limitations of a traditional classroom.

It is also a great tool that allows us to present Live Sessions to DePaul Quad members.

How to Participate in aDePaul Quad Live Session

To participate in a Live Sessions, be sure you have first prepared your computer by installing Wimba Classroom.

The steps to install Wimba Classroom are outlined in the tutorial “DePaul Quad Live Session Setup”. We recommend viewing the setup tutorial before this one.

If you have already installed Wimba Classroom, please proceed through this presentation for a brief orientation to the online classroom.

STEP 1When it is time for the scheduled live session, go to http://depaullive.wimba.com.

Make sure your web browser’s pop-up blocker is turned OFF.

Select the orange “Participant Login” button.

STEP 2

Under the first section labeled “Participant Login”, enter your first and last name in the box that says “Name” and then select “Enter”.

Disregard the section at the bottom. This is for presenters only. You will not need to enter your DePaul Quad username and password to participate in the Live Sessions.

STEP 3

Wait while the system loads.

STEP 4

You are now in the virtual lobby viewing a list of available classrooms.

Scroll down the list and select “DePaul Quad Live Session”.

WELCOME TO THE CLASSROOM

You are now in the “DePaul Quad Live Session Classroom”.

We will now provide a brief orientation to the room and its functions.

VIDEO

Notice the video of the presenter is in a separate pop-up window.

You may move this window to any part of your screen. If you prefer, you may also close it and simply listen to the audio and view the powerpoint presentation.

If you do not see the video, click once on the video camera icon on the tool bar near the bottom of the screen. The video window should appear shortly.

AUDIO

The speaker icon has 3 bars next to it that will light up when the presenter is talking.

If you see these bars are lit up, but you cannot hear the presenter, first check the volume of your computer and try to make an adjustment to hear the presenter.

AUDIO

If you have adjusted the volume on your computer but still cannot hear, click once on the speaker icon.

When the volume box pops up, adjust the level on the left until you can hear the presenter.

ASK A QUESTION

Once the presenter has finished the presentation, he/she will answer questions from the group.

To submit a question, type in the chat box at the bottom left corner of the screen and hit enter.

ASK A QUESTION

Your question will appear in the message box for all participants and the presenter to see.

EXIT

When the session is over, select “Exit” in the bottom right corner of the screen.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If you are having trouble logging in to a live session, send an e-mail to depaulquad@depaul.edu. We will do our best to respond as quickly as possible to help you log in to the session.

If we are unable to solve the problem in time for you to participate, we will do our best to resolve it before the next session.

We will post all live session recordings in the Resources section of the Quad. You will be able to view any previous live session at any time if you are not able to join the session live.
