The City of the FutureIE ADMISSION PRESENTATION BY BORNA IVEZIC

Aspects of a Future City - Sustainability

• Sustainability: As effects of climate change become more prominent, the need to find solutions and create a sustainable environment increases

• Evident that sustainability will be a major aspect of cities in the future

Why is Sustainability Necessary? • Possibility of exponential

increase in average temperature

o Creates issues including Rising Sea Levels Mass Displacement Mass Extinction of

Animal Species

How Will Sustainability Be Achieved?

• Renewable Sources of Energy:

Ideally, a total or overwhelming energy mix containing renewable sources of energy provides environmentally friendly energy and less CO2 emissions

• Increased Biodiversity:

By implementing more green spaces and habitats for animals allowing for greater biodiversity and in turn less CO2 emissions.

• Vertical Farming:

The creation of farms in skyscrapers, or vertical farms, will mean cities can sustain increasing food demand and provide protection from weather

What will this look like?

Green Spaces

Vertical Farming

Aspects of a Future City – New Technology• New technologies like

o Self-Driving Carso Faster / more efficient public

transporto Drones

• Potential for technologies to increase efficiency / sustainability of future cities

How Will Technology Be Implemented In a Future City• Self-Driving Cars

These cars will allow for safer transportation and less congestion by decreasing accidents.

• Drones

Could potentially improve farming (apply fertilizer) and also be used in areas like firefighting

• Improved Public Transport

New technologies like the “straddling bus” will improve both the speed of public transport but will also reduce congestion.

What will this look like

Drones

Straddling Bus (Public Transport)

Self-Driving Cars

IN CONCLUSION

• Technology and sustainability will be major aspects of a future city

• Efficiency and speed of transport, emergency response etc. will be improved
