Sent the king's men on a wild goose chase.

14 And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the Lord hathhath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.

You deal straightdeal straight with us, and we will deal straight with youwith you.

There was no doubtno doubt in either Rahab's mind nor in the mind of the spies of the outcomeof the outcome.

God wouldGod would give Jericho to the Israelites.

15 Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt she dwelt upon the wallupon the wall.

4

Jericho at this time was surrounded by two walls about 15 feet apart. Planks of wood spanned the gap and then houses were built on this foundation. Probably due to the pressure of space in the small city, Rahab’s house was one of those built “on the wall.” In this way it was “part of the city wall”.

16 And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.

Will you listen and heed good counsel?

Or are you so arrogant that you ignore it?

Psalms 1 1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodlyungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delighthis delight is in the Law of the Lord; and in His Law doth he meditatemeditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Proverbs 12 15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

9

Counsel = Prudence or wisewise counsel.

Only a fool refusesrefuses to listen when he is given good advicegood advice.

He goes his own way and sufferssuffers.

17 And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear. 18 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down bylet us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.

12

The same cord Rahab used for the saving of these Israelites, was to be used for her own safety. What we serve and honor God with, we may expect He will bless, and make useful to us.

Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary

13

19 And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him. 20 And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

14

Bring your whole familywhole family into your house;

It is the only place of safetyplace of safety in this city.

If anything was goinggoing to happen, it would have already happenedhappened.

21 And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window. 22 And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.

16

23 So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them: 24 And they said unto Joshua, Truly the Lord hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.

17

Do you think they kept their word?

We are only as good as our word.

Colossians 3 9Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; 10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him:

Live an honest and upright life.

Keep your word about all things.
