When David became king of Israel, his small nation was surrounded by powerful enemies.

He set out in the Power of God to bring peace and prosperity to the

people of God.

3

2 Samuel 8 1 And after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and David took Meth eg ammah out of the hand of the Philistines. 2 And he smote Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the ground; even with two lines measured he to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And so the Moabites became David's servants, and brought gifts.

He killed 2/3 of the Moabites and made the remaining pay tribute to him each year.

4

3 David smote also Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah (up north), as he went to recover his border at the river Euphrates. 4 And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David houghed (lamed) all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for an hundred chariots.

5

5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succor (help) Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men. 6 Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought gifts. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

6

7 And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem. 8 And from Betah, and from Be ro thai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took exceeding much brass.

7

9 When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Had ad e zer, 10 Then Toi sent Joram his son unto king David, to salute him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and smitten him: for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And Joram brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:

8

11 Which also king David did dedicate unto the LORD, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued; 12 Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

9

13 And David gat him a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt, being eighteen thousand men. 14 And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became David's servants. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

10

15 And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people. 16 And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder; 17 And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Se rai ah was the scribe; 18 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites (elite troops); and David's sons were chief rulers.

11

“And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.”

We see a reoccuring statement in this passage:

That is the key to all his victories!David’s strength was in the Lord.

12

Psalm 20 6 Now know I that the LORD saveth His anointed; He will hear him from His Holy Heaven with the saving strength of His Right Hand. 7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the Name of the LORD our God. 8 They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.

Where’s your Trust and Hope?

13

They are brought down and fallen …

Psalm 20:8a

14

As David said, “We are risen and stand upright.”

Psalms 20:8b

15

God’s people today are surrounded by enemies.

Muslims hate all who don’t accept their religion.

Secular humanists hate Christianity.

They put their faith in science and philosophy, and reject the Truth of God and His Word.

Our government is fighting Christianity every day.

The press speaks out against God and Christianity on TV, radio, magazines, newspapers.

But these are not enemies that we fight against.

16

Ephesians 6 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the Power of His Might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Our battle is in the realm of spirits.

Evil spirits war against God and His children.

17

The primary battlefield is our

mind.It is there that they build their

strongholds.Demons of doubt, fear, worry, anger, lust,

addictions, greed, pride,

all get into our minds and fight against our desire to serve the Lord our God.

18

We must be transformed by renewing our minds: by filling our minds with God’s Way.

Romans 12:2Psalm 37 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD:

and he delighteth in His Way.

How do we resist these demons?

If God says, “Do it.” then we do it without question.

If God says, “Don’t.” then we don’t --

With willing hearts.

19

Study prayerfully to know the Will of God

according to the Word of God.

Submit fully and willingly to the Spirit of God.

We win

Apply it.
