DESCRIPTION

Museums and the Web is an international conference that hosts innovative examples of research and application of digital to the cultural, natural and scientific heritage. #svegliamuseo has been invited to the Social Media Clinic, chaired by Neal Stimler (Metropolitan Museum of Art) and including Sarah Bailey Hogarty (Fine Arts Museums in San Francisco), Matt Heenan (Eriksen Translations) and Dana Allen-Greil (National Gallery of Art, Washington DC). We presented our project and reflected on how museums around the world are “waking up” to new audiences and conversations.

8

That’s why we came up with a plan

9

1. Ask museums abroad for advice, matching them with volunteering Italian institutions

10

• Mart – Museum of Modern Art of Rovereto#

• Muse – Science Museum of Trento#

• Leonardo da Vinci – Science Museum of Milan#

• Triennale – Design Museum of Milan#

• Museo di Storia Naturale – Science Museum of Florence

2. Interview ‘best online’ museums in Italy

11

We created a Facebook group where museums can #• get informed#• ask#• talk#• discuss##And that is made of:#• communication professionals#• museums professionals#• people keen on museums

3. Build a community

12

We opened a Twitter account from where we #• broadcast news#• connect museums #• highlight initiatives

4. Spread the voice

What happened?

14

New museum accounts are springing up like mushrooms

15

Italian museums can now use their hashtags

September 2013#= 15 Italian museums

February 2014#= 34 Italian museums

March 2014#= 104 Italian museums

15

And they totally rocked it!

15

And they totally rocked it!

16

Even art began to tweet!

17

People working in museums are “waking up” and making #svegliamuseo their hashtag

19

We’re helping a lot of small and mid-size museums to reach the early adopters

20

Where are we headed?

21

We’ve been growing bigger, and our mission with us

#svegliamuseo wants to be a convener for exchanges and conversations about digital communication in the cultural sector. ##We aim to increase awareness on resources available and encourage  collaboration across museum communities to collaboratively create guidelines for the development of sustainable and integrated digital strategies.

22

We will try to make Italian museums of all sizes understand the importance of a well-planned strategy

23

Sure enough, we will keep doing our best to help our museums!
