Access Management Study:
– Vision: Walkable, bike-able urban community
– Advisory group of residents, businesses, County staff
– 4 public meetings– Online survey w/ 1,900
participants– 1 of 7 bike-pedestrian
projects selected for funding– Plan adopted by BOS in
2011• Purpose: Connect Pimmit
Hills neighborhoods to McLean Metro Rail Station

• 2,676 LF of 8’ wide asphalt trail• Two bridges: 90’ x 12’ and 50’ x
12’• Marked crossing at Colshire
Meadow Drive• Federal Funding- Updated project
cost estimate: $2,500,000• Meets ADA Guidelines for
pedestrian access route: no slopes greater than 5%

Design• Retain existing connection to
Colonies Condominiums
• Primarily on FC Park Authority property – some temporary and permanent easements needed on adjacent properties
• Lighting:– Lighting design has not been
completed– Compatible with designed trails in
Tysons– Tysons standard fixtures will be used – Pedestrian scale 14’ -16’ poles

Bridges
• Trail will include two bridges
• One 90’x12’ bridge crossing Scotts Run Stream
• One 50’x12’ bridge will cross storm water outfall along west side of stream
