From the 2016 World Happiness Report:

• GDP per capita

• Social Support (as measured by having someone to count on in times of trouble)

• Healthy years of Life Expectancy

• Perceived Freedom to make life decisions

• Trust (as measured by a perceived absence of corruption in government and business)

• Generosity (as measured by recent donations)

Three-quarters of the differences among countries, and also among regions, are accounted for by differences in six key variables:

How Economists Measure Happiness

“Please imagine a ladder, with steps numbered from 0 at the bottom to 10 at the top. The top of the ladder represents the best possible life for you and the bottom of the ladder represents the worst possible life for you. On which step of the ladder would you say you personally feel you stand at this time?”

What is Happiness?

Happiness is NOT:

• Something you obtain

• A goal

• (Transitory) Pleasure

• Derived externally

• Pure Positivity

Happiness IS:

• Something you “inhabit”

• A byproduct

• (Lasting) Satisfaction

• Internal Validation

• Balanced with Negativity

Happiness is the process of becoming your ideal self.

Manson’s Happiness Process:

1. Imagine who you want to be

2. Get off your ass and do something to move you closer to that

3. Tweak the 50% of your “baseline happiness” that you can control• Perceived Control = Happiness• Take responsibility for Everything

• Set and achieve small, achievable goals

• Get over the need for approval from others

• See beyond yourself

• Give, and give away

Pete’s Happiness Process:

• Imagine who you want to be

• Get off your ass and do something to move you closer to that

• Choose HOW you want to be, in each moment

Catabolic and Anabolic Energy

Catabolic energy is like living with blinders.

• Calming

• Protection
