Avoid duplicate title tags. Keep title tags to 70 characters or less including spaces.

4Tips for Managing Page Titles

| 12

Tip 1

Make sure every page on your site has a title tag. Pages without titles do not contribute to your site’s SEO… And they certainly are not helping searchers.

| 13

Tip 2

Page titles should be descriptive and concise.

Avoid vague descriptions, e.g. 'Home’ for your home page.

Avoid unnecessarily long or verbose titles. You don’t want to lose searchers before they even get to your page.

Keep your title tags to 70 characters including spaces. Longer titles will cut off when they show up in the search results listing.

| 14

Tip 3

Avoid keyword stuffing.

While it’s sometimes helpful to have a few descriptive terms in the title, there’s no reason to have the same words or phrases appear multiple times. A keyword stuffed title like ‘Film Series, Film Programs, Film Showings’ doesn’t help the user.

It only makes your results look spammy.

| 15

Tip 4

Title tags should be unique for every page.

Create distinct descriptive titles for each page on your site.

Titling every page with your brand name, for example, makes it impossible for users to quickly distinguish one web page from another.

And that’s just not helpful.

| 16

Tip 5

Brand your titles, but do it concisely.

The title of your site’s home page is a reasonable place to include some additional information, e.g. your location.

Displaying the same text into the title of every page hurts readability.

It will look particularly repetitive if several pages from your site are returned for the query .

Effective high quality title tags are an SEO necessity, and help both

search engines and searchers know what’s on your page.
