THERE ARE, THERE ISThe expressions "there is" and "there are" are used for indicating that an object or a person are in a

specified site.

En español ambas significan “HAY”

EXAMPLE:

There is a book on the table.There are two cups of coffee on the table.

Utilizamos there is cuando el sujeto es:

Un sustantivo contable singular: There is an apple on the table.

Un sustantivo incontable:There is some tea in the glass.

Utilizamos there are cuando el sujeto es:Un sustantivo plural:

There are two electric guitars on the sofa.

La forma negativa de las expresiones existenciales there is / there are se

construye con la partícula negativa not:

There isn’t any apple on the table.

There aren’t two electric guitars on the sofa.

La forma interrogativa se construye mediante una inversión entre el verbo to be y

el sujeto there:

Is there an apple in the kitchen?

Are there two children in the living room?
