The Principle of Relative Constancy

• Do people keep adding new entertainment media, or do they adjust by dropping one form in favor of another?

• People spend a constant fraction of their disposable income on mass media over time.

• If new media technology is introduced, in order for adoption to happen the new technology has to be compelling enough for the adopter to give up something else.

• This means that new game consoles must have something that the others don’t in order for the consumer to switch. Such as the PS3, when it was introduced, it included a Blu-Ray player which Xbox and the Wii did not include.

The future of Consoles

• You wont see the console on the TV stand because they will be built into the tv.

• You will begin to see a vast vary of games through open platforms

• Characteristics would include the relative advantage over other mobile phones.

• Mass media gives awareness to the people for innovations in technologies.

• Five step process– Find out about the new product, persuasion, decide to

accept or reject the innovation, implementation, confirmation
