Business Ethics

Winter 2008

Introduction

In business ethics, we spend substantial time examining the “bads” of the corporate world, for example actions by Enron, Arthur Anderson, and Tyco executives.

As a contrast, students were charged with creating “social good.”

Students learned 1) what they, as individuals, without financial resources, can do and 2) what might be possible as they become members of, and leaders for, powerful organizations, with resources!

A Healthier Washington

Taking Steps to a Healthier Washington

“The Steps to a Healthier Washington program helps communities create policies that make the healthy choice the easy choice.”

According to the Health District, “physical inactivity, over weight and obesity are associated with increased risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, asthma, and arthritis.”

Students worked with the Okanogan Health District to conduct walkability surveys.

Survey results will help cities identify priority areas for making our streets more “walkable” and get people moving!

Okanogan Animal Foster Shelter

Adoptions and Awareness

To begin there were over 80 cats in the shelter.

Through our efforts, 15 cats were adopted.

Raised over $60 worth of weight circles

Volunteered at the shelter to help with cleaning and bathing the cats.

Love those cats!

Each cat costs the shelter $20 for shots and care.

We helped by raising money and helping to care for the cats.
