• Definition- Safety is a Condition, Quality and Situation of being safe from any danger, injury, loss, damage, accident.

• Safety is freedom from harm or the danger of harm.

• Safety is necessary everywhere and all times, in homes, on roads, in offices, public places, while travelling or working in industry.

• Actually, Our life and health are most precious to us, to our family, to our community, to our country. “SAFETY” denotes continuing and healthful living without injury.

• Safety is also deals with improvements in working conditions for better health.

• Most mishaps can be prevented by appropriate safety management actions and by following basic safety rules.

OBJECTIVES/NEED FOR SAFETY

• Industries has more hazardous situations and activities then home or an office. Many persons work as a team in an industry and Safety is for every individual, group of workers and the total organization.

• Safety Management is an essential and mandatory function of industrial management. Safety should be the way of life and work in industry.

• Safety Management and safety precautions are necessary at every stage manufacturing, testing, site construction work, operation and maintenance of industry.

INDUSTRIAL SAFETY

• Industrial work is full of hazards. It is necessary to take precautions with a view to ensure safety of the plants, machinery and the human beings.

• Accidents in industry are very costly. Injuries to the workers cannot be compensated.

• Accident may occur due to:-

Human Error - 88% accidents are caused due to unsafe practice. Mechanical Failure – 10% accidents are caused due to plant

condition, equipment or tool failure. Acts of Nature – 2% accidents are caused due to weather, flood or

cyclone.

FUNDAMENTAL’s OF SAFETY

• Nevertheless, safety starts with you. Productivity can be increased by ensuring safety. While working at a construction site or in an industry, some hazardous situations are unavoidable. But you must be aware of possible hazards and take sensible precautions.
