ROBOT

THE DEFINITION OF THE ROBOT

mechanical device that performs certain tasks

automatically. The robot can be controlled by

human action, by program, or a

previously entered set of rules, which shall be sent to a

robot using artificial intelligence techniques.

THE DEFINITION OF THE ROBOT

We use the concept of robot for naming

autonomously operating reception facilities which

receive information from the environment with the

help of sensors and interact with their surroundings

with the help of effectors. Such robots are being

built by researchers dealing with artificial

intelligence in order to model thinking or behavior of

animals and people. The field of artificial

intelligence dedicated to the design and

construction of robots is robotics.

ETYMOLOGY

The word robot was introduced to the public by the

Czech interwar writer Karel Čapek in his play

R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots), published in

1920.

ETYMOLOGY

The play begins in a factory that makes artificial

people called robots, though they are closer to the

modern ideas of androids - creatures who can be

mistaken for humans. They can plainly think for

themselves, though they seem happy to serve. At

issue is whether the robots are being exploited and

the consequences of their treatment.

3 LAWS OF ROBOTICS

A Robot may not harm a human, or by omission

allowed to man suffered injuries.

The Robot must be obeyed orders, unless they

conflict with the first law.

A Robot must protect himself, if only there is it in

conflict with the first or second Law.

THE RIGHT PARENTS

After some time Asimov added fourth law, also called

the zeroth law to precede all the others:

„A robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction, allow

humanity to come to harm.”

IMPORTANT PARAMETERS OF A ROBOT

ACTUATOR - serves as artificial muscle, produces

movement using energy (electric, mechanical,

pneumatic, hydraulic)

COMMUNICATOR- unit that sends and receives

instructions to and from a remote controller

END EFFECTOR- grabbing (chwytające) device at

the end of robots arm

IMPORTANT PARAMETERS OF A ROBOT

MANIPULATOR - mechanism that contains several

segments or arms

POWER SUPPLY is generally the energy storage

device, such as rechargeable batteries for mobile

unit

SENSOR – is a device which detects changes in

the environment and converts them to date
