Brief History

• Colonized and named by the German empire in 1884 as Kamerun• After world war I, in 1919, it was colonized by France and

Britain; France taking a larger portion (French Cameroon) and Britain a smaller portion (English or Southern Cameroon)

• Got independence from France and Britain in 1960, under President Ahmadou Ahidjo

• United in 1961 into the Federal Republic of Cameroon• Changed into United Republic of Cameroon in 1972• Next President Paul Biya, got to power in 1982 and is still the

president till date
