Welfare, although a right, has served as enabler for African American women

African American children on welfare 23.6% (1963), to >70% (2016).

Many still don’t see how welfare reduces the value of black men

Too many students not getting a satisfactory education

Future high school dropouts, teenage pregnancies, increased juvenile activities

Unskilled workers, high unemployment, welfare beneficiaries, increased crime rate, GNP declines

High Incarceration Rate• There is nearly a 70 percent chance that

an African American man without a high school diploma will be imprisoned by his mid-thirties.

• By their fourteenth birthday, African American children whose fathers do not have a high school diploma are more likely than not to see their fathers incarcerated.

• Juvenile incarceration can have lasting impacts on a young person's future (Kearney & Harris 2014).

• Annual federal spending on students vs inmates, $12,643 to educate one student vs $28,323 to house one inmate.

• 6% of federal inmates, 67% state inmates, 69% local inmates in local jails did not complete high school. •

Unions and teachers more interested in pay-raises and grants than student achievement.

Testing, and competition from Catholic schools is enormously high.

Replacing basic instruction with the self-esteem pedagogy.

Has pernicious effects on talented young blacks.
