An Environment that is made by humans.

Homes

Homes are places in which an individual or a family can rest and be able to store personal belongings. Animals have their own homes as well, living either in the wild or in a home environment with people.

NeighborhoodsA neighborhood is a community made up of people and their homes; it may also include stores, parks, and other businesses.

Factories

A factory is a building where workers make goods or supplies with the help of machines. Factories produce a variety of products and they are found around the world.

Places to Shop

Usually people shop at two general locations depending on what they need/want. For example, a person shopping for clothing would go to a shopping mall; however a person shopping for groceries would go to the grocery store. These are two very different constructed environments.

A shopping mall is a large building that contains a variety of stores, restaurants, and other businesses that are connected into one large building.

A forest is an area of land with a lot of trees. There are three types:

Rainforests

Rainforests are forests in very hot areas of the world. There is a lot of rainfall there, and more kinds of plants and animals live there than anywhere else in the world!

Coniferous Forests

Coniferous Forests are made up of mostly pine and fir trees. They stay green all year round!

Broadleaf Forests

Broadleaf Forests have trees with leaves that fall in the autumn, such as maples, oaks, and beech trees.

Mountains

A mountain is a landform that rises to a high elevation, and has a peak.

Wetlands

Wetlands are areas with very moist soil, such as bogs, swamps, and marshes. These environments are very important, and are being preserved in the United States.

Water

There are two basic types of aquatic habitats: freshwater and saltwater. The three types of water we will explore are

Lakes

A body of freshwater that fills up a low area of land, and is usually fed by a river.

Rivers

A natural stream of water that flows into a lake or ocean.

Ocean

A major body of salt water. Oceans cover most of the Earth’s surface.

Plains

Plains are areas of flatlands. They include prairies, steppes, and grasslands.

Tundra

A tundra is an area where there are few trees due to very cold temperatures.

Desert

A Desert is a flat area of land that is very hot, and receives very little rainfall.
