To discuss the guidelines and laws which we are bound of, to follow as our print and broadcast journalists do.

Standards

A set of rules which ensures quality. Or a level of quality.

For example; Someone believe that BBC broadcasts news and analysis of quality.

What is Journalistic Standards?

Boston newsletter had slogan;

“Anything for the story.”

But now; The things are dramatically changed.”

Journalistic Standards

Lie in print or on the air and Never threaten the source.

Report rumors.Suppress or omit opinion with

which one disagreed and story must be free from favoritism.

Misrepresent oneself to get a story.

Plagiarize words or ideas. Interfere in personal matter.Use ones position for personal

gain and never do anything that caused “conflict of interest”.

What is Online Standards?

“On the internet there is netiquette; Ste of rules and customs considered polite to follow when you are communicating through internet.”

Online Standards

Remember the humans. Adopt the same standards of

behavior online that you follow in real life.

Know where you are in cyber space.

Respect other people’s time. Make yourself good online.

Online Standards

Share expert knowledge. Keep flame wars under

control. Respect other people’s

privacy. Don’t abuse your power. Be forgiving other’s mistakes.

Online versus Journalistic Standards

Online has more interaction than traditional media.

Online media is small and simple setup but traditional media has huge setup.

Online media follows informal process but traditional media has formal process.

Common Grounds

Web culture. Permission before taping

phone calls. Reporting rumors and

threatening sources. Journalistic credibility. Abuses the power.

Conclusion

Online media and rational media should work hard and honestly for the betterment of future.

While working in these two mediums a journalist should be nice to others.

Power should never be misused while working as a journalist.
