• Rome is the capital of Italy and its largest city. Today, about 2,656,000 people live in Rome.

Language Of Italy

• Italian is a Romance language spoken by about 60 million people in Italy, Switzerland, San Marino, the Vatican City, Malta and Eritrea. There are also Italian speakers in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Australia, Canada, the USA and the UK.

National Dress

• The national costume of Italy has its roots in the Roman Empire. Men mainly wear black with dress shoes and loafers. Women basic garment is the stola, which is essentially a long tunic reaching to the ground. It is generally worn over another long tunic, the tunica interior.

National Flower

• In Italy, the traditional national flower is the Rose flower. Violet is considered the most popular of all the flowers. White lily on the other hand is the religious flower. Italian wolf stands out as the fauna of the Nation.

• Usually when we hear of Italy, pizza comes in our mind. Famous dishes of Italy include pizza, pasta, lasagna, minestrone soup and risotto.

There is a famous saying, "All roads lead to Rome." Rome is Italy's capital and its largest city. Over 2,500,000 people live there. Rome is known as "the eternal city." It is filled with some of the world's most famous buildings like the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain. If you throw a coin over your left shoulder while you have your back to the fountain, it is supposed to bring you good luck and a quick return to Rome.

In Milan you can find La Scala Opera House and see The Last Supper painted by Leonardo Da Vinci. You can also find Milan's Galleria. Which is a beautiful street of stores and restaurants covered by an amazing glass roof.

Naples is the most important seaport in Italy. It is the center of Italy's exporting business. About 1,000,000 people live in Naples. If you visit Naples you can see Mount Vesuvius (a volcano).

Florence is located in the Tuscany region at the bottom of the Apennine Mountains. It is known for its famous museums, architecture, and artwork. Florence is one of the world's most visited cities because of the amazing paintings and statues that you can see here. Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci are two of the famous artists whose work you can see here.

Venice is in northeastern Italy. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is known as "the city of canals.". Today Venetians travel by motor launch to get from place to place. Visitors can still use a gondola to see the city.
