Siege Machines

History Catapults are an offshoot of the

Crossbow. Catapults originated in China around

the 3rd and 4th Century BC. During Medieval times catapults

were used as a key siege weapon against castles.

Types of Siege Machines

Catapult – Uses an arm and bucket to launch a projectile at a target.

Ropes store tension. Sometimes have wheels to move.

Ballista – Uses tension stored in ropes to throw an object.

Types of Siege Machines

Trebuchet – Uses a weighted beam that swings a sling carrying the projectile.

Consists of a pivoting beam and a counterweight that rotates the beam through an arc.
