HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN
PRODUCTS AND YOUR ANCILLARY TASKS?
By Jessica Dexter…
WHAT IS A BRAND?
A
brand is the identity of a specific product or business. A brand
can take many forms, including a name, sign, symbol, colour
combination or Slogan. The word brand has continued to evolve
to encompass identity - it affects the personality of a product,
company or service.
F
or example, here are some examples of popular or famous brand
images….
MUSIC BRAND IDENTITY.
M
any bands have a band identity or image that they follow. For bands and artists
to be noticed and recognised by the public and audience, record labels usually
create a band image/identity to create more sales and public appeal. This is why
it is important, it makes band more popular among a wider range of audiences
and brings in a lot more sales for the record labels. In some situations, brand
imaging is sometimes stuck with the band, so whenever a logo or certain object
is brought it, it instantly creates the image of the band or artist. For example,
Lady Gaga is a perfect example of brand image…
L
ady Gaga’s brand image is her
fashion as you can tell by the
photo’s on the right, her fashion is
portrayed in her music videos such
as Bad Romance and Telephone.
Her Album, The Fame also includes
her brand of fashion, which makes
audiences know straight away this
is Lady Gaga. Fashion is her brand
identity and it is shown through
videos, albums and award shows.
BRAND IMAGE: LADY GAGA
OUR BRAND IMAGE..
O
ur brand image is for a certain type and age range of people. We
wanted female audiences to enjoy our artist, who are white
Caucasian between the ages of 15 to 20. So by using this
information from an audience we wanted to aim for, we decided to
have a unique, bold artist with upbeat music and a different fashion
style. We looked at artists such as Taylor Swift, Natasha Bedingfield
and Eliza Doolittle, which all have followings of teenage fans.
COMPARISONS..
Colourful, playful outfits.
Posing, different, face
forward. Make up: red
lipstick.
Unique hairstyles.
ALLISON CROWE..W
hen finding our song the artist name was Allison Crowe, which we decided to stick with.
But we needed to find a logo for our artist, which would be seen on magazine
advertisements and the album cover. To find this we searched DaFont and soon our logo
was this..
A
s you can see we have incorporated a green bird on the I and at the end of the album
name. This is a small part of our brand identity. The font of this is a normal writing style,
how some people write, so it seems as though our artist has done it herself, a small
personal touch.
…
A
lthough the font is in black, we wanted it to stand out over the
bright colours that our artist was going to be wearing. However,
the green of the bird gives it a more vintage, quirky feel towards
the album and artist.
T
he font also aims towards our target audience as it’s quirky and
not to bold, so audiences don’t receive the wrong impression
over our artist and the album.
MUSIC VIDEO.
B
ecause our music video is about a young girl, who
doesn’t feel confident about herself or how she
dresses, we wanted to show audiences that music
videos can relate to a lot of problems that young
girls do face today. This gives our target audience
a better idea that our artist is about real life
situations, not videos with meaningless situations
involved. We got our inspiration from videos such
as Taylor Swifts ‘You belong with me.’
MUSIC VIDEO.
T
hroughout our music video, we used bright colours such as purples and pinks
of heather, as she is our artist and all focus should be on her. We also wanted
her to be different to other artists, which is shown through hair style and
fashion.
A
s you can see she is in a woods, with leaves falling behind her. This image
behind her tells the audiences that the genre of our music video is pop/folk.
ANCILLARY TASK..
F
or our ancillary tasks we created a digi-pak. We
wanted to create bright, vibrate colours to make
the album stand our from all others you see on
shelves, so we created a splash, which we use
throughout the album and magazine
advertisement. As you can see colours such as
blues, pinks, yellows and greens are there. This
appeals more to a teenage girl audience as these
colours more commonly are there favourite.
DIGI-PACK.
A
s you can see here, we have used the
splash behind some lyrics on one
page of the digi-pack as well as trees
in the background, which were the
same in the music video that we
filmed behind our artist. As well
heather is dressed in her outfit worn
in the music video, which stands out
along with the splash colours.
DIGI-PACK. H
ere is our front cover for our album. As
you can see we have used our splash,
which is used through the whole digi-
pack, as well as our brand logo of Allison
Crowe, including the bird on the end. Our
artist’s outfit is the same again, in a bright
outside, fitting with all colours included in
the album. This appeals to our target
audience as it’s bright, fun looking and
unique. The same font and splash has also
been used on our CD cover.
DIGI-PACK.H
ere is our digi-pack all together and as you can see the splash is
used in every frame.
MAGAZINE ADVERTISEMENT.
W
hen creating our magazine advertisement, we wanted to use
the same style we used when creating our Digi-Pack. We
wanted bright, vibrant colours with that hint of quirkiness, as
well as using the same yellow that we used for the background
of our CD cover, which we planned to use again, as it was not
used as much. We also decided to choose a different picture of
our artist as it would then bee seen as separate from the
album.
MAGAZINE ADVERTISEMENT.
H
ere is our magazine advertisement, as you can
see, we have every detail that magazine
advertisement has. For example we have features
such as they release date, the font and name of
artist and album on the top left, and finally
websites or places where you can find the artist
or buy the album. We also included the large
splash, which was included on the front of the
magazine, as well as a new photo of our artist,
however, still in the same purple, bright outfit.
FONTS..
A
s you can see there are a few additions to the magazine advertisement
that are not found on the digi-pack such as this sketchy, scribble writing
telling audiences the day of the release of the album.
W
e decided to use this font as it appeals again more to our audience, but as
well as that it stands out and opens the audience to a more wider one.
MAGAZINE..
T
he picture of our artist we used is of her still in the same
outfit, with a different pose, however same makeup and
bright red hair style, this continuity shows that the album
is as colourful and unique as you see the picture of our
artist in the magazine. This style appeals to our audiences
as it is bright and unique as well as it gives the audience
more a fashion statement.
FINALLY..
T
hroughout our project we have kept continuity
throughout the music video, digi-pack and magazine
advertisement. By keeping this continuity it appeals
more to our young 15-20 female teenage audience, it
also keeps the album and make the music video look
exciting for those who are not a target audience.
