Gothic sculpture and painting
Materials used were normally stone and wood
Reliefs were sculpted on the façades of temples
Especially on columns, typanum and archivolts
They also made free-standing sculptures
Like Romanesque, Gothic sculpture had a didactic purpose, but Gothic figures weremore expresive than Romanesque ones.
Themes were religious: Christ as pantocrator
Saints and scenes from the Bible
Paintings were mainly done on Wood orcanvas
At the beginning figures were verystylised
but Little by Little they became more realistic
Religious themes predominated but in thefinal phases artists began to paint scenes of
the daily life and portraits
