+Rationale

The CSSM recertification mechanism was designed to be

knowledge levels as identified by your initial certification

examination scores

This recertification method was developed in response to the

direction provided by our accreditation providers

+Key Points

Professional development methods will guide and facilitate knowledge acquisition and learning experiences relative to the Job Analysis findings underlying the CSSM credential

This recertification mechanism requires a degree of planning and commitment to the process

How much work you must do in your recertification process and in which areas is linked to your performance on the CSSM certification examination

The credential cannot be maintained solely by doing CE –No matter how well you scored on the initial certification examination

+

career.

The retiree must pay a one-time fee and submit an

application.

The application for emeritus status must be submitted and

accepted prior to the current credential having lapsed.

CSSM(E) members may be considered for CCI Board and

committee appointments.

+The Second Recertification Cycle

After the first recertification nurses holding the CSSM credential will have two choices regarding their professional development:

Re-take the CSSM certification examination to again establish a professional development course/pathway for the second recertification cycle.

Take a self-assessment examination to establish a professional development course/pathway

These methods will determine the amount of professional development activity needed to maintain the credential and also the focus of that activity

The self-assessment examination is still in development

A new and different form of the CSSM certification exam will be used for those who choose to re-test
