CHANGES IN MATTER
María, Aitor, Curro y Antonio. 6th Grade CEIP ALFARES
THE PROPERTIES OF MATTER
● Matter is everything
that forms the universe
and occupies space.
It has both general and
specific properties.
GENERAL AND SPECIFICS PROPERTIES
● GENERAL PROPERTIES.
General properties are common to all types of matter. They are mass and volume .
● SPECIFIC PROPERTIES
Specific properties permit us to
differentiate between different types of
matter.
Two examples are colour and density.
CHANGE IN MATTER
● CHANGES IN MATTER.
Matter can change .
There are two types
of changes: phisical
changes and chemical
changes.
PHYSICAL CHANGES
PHYSICAL CHANGESPhysical changes do not change the mass of an
object or the type of matter an objet is formed of.
Physical changes are: deformations or changes of shapes; changes of state; expansions or increases in
volume; contractions or decreases in volume.
CHEMICAL CHANGES
● CHEMICAL CHANGES.
Chemical changes or
chemical reactions
happen when two or
more substances are
combined. They react to
each other and they
produce new substaces called products.
PURE SUBSTANCES AND MIXTURES
● PURE SUBSTANCES.
Pure substances are
formed of only one
type of matter .
● MIXTURES
Solutions are mixtures
in which we canot
distinguish the diffe
rent components.
