After the excitement of International Week, it has very much been back to business at
AP1 this week with the focus being settling the children back in to the routines of daily
school life. I admire how our children adapt so quickly.
This week has seen the beginning of the Term 2 Extra Curricular programme. With well
over 100 clubs on offer from a range of five areas (Arts, Sports, Community, Language
and Technology), the campus has been busy from first thing in the morning to well after
the scheduled home time. May I remind you all that all of our Community clubs are con-
sidered as ‘additional’ preferences and will not count towards a child’s age specific entitle-
ment. Currently we still have spaces left in the Community clubs that are listed below. If
you would like your child to join any of the clubs, please contact my PA, Ms Duyen
directly: duyentranthikim@bisvietnam.com
This week there have been a number of motor vehicles that have been fined for parking directly outside of
school along Nguyen Van Huong. Please be aware that all cars should only stop for a quick drop off or pick up.
As I have mentioned previously, the use of Gate C and the school bridge is often under utilised and parents
wishing to park and avoid fines should consider parking away from the school entrances.
My second Headteacher’s Coffee Morning of the year will take place on Wednesday 11th February at 8.15am in
the Multi Purpose Room. Please make a note of this date in your diary as it would be great to see as many par-
ents as possible attend. More details of this event will be sent to you shortly, via email.
Another date for your diary is Monday 9th February. The PTG, in conjunction with our Year 4 students have
organised a Charity Bake Sale. More details of this event and how you can help, can be found on page 11.
I hope that you enjoy reading about the many articles found in today’s newsletter.
Have a great weekend.
International Week Updates
Check out the AP1 parent blog this week to find a stunning array of photos in a slide show showcasing our
wonderful students in their national dress and national colours.
Unfortunately one of our students in Year 5 did not get to march under his national flag of Trinidad and Toba-
go.
Ashvin, you looked incredible!

Uniform
This week saw all the children having their individual and
class photos taken by our fantastic photographer Johnny Woo.
The children look super and it was great to see everyone look-
ing so smart. At BIS we have the highest expectations of our
students, not just academically but also in how they conduct
themselves. This includes how they present themselves in
their school uniforms. With that in mind, can I give a gentle
reminder about our uniform expectations here at school. The
children are expected to wear black shoes, not trainers. Socks
should come above the ankle.
All children with long hair should have it tied back with either
a red, blue or maroon soft hair band. No bandana style head
bands or hair accessories which include hard bobbles are to be
worn. Hard Alice bands should not be worn. All hair accesso-
ries should be based on school colours. If in doubt, please see
your child’s class teacher.
Nail varnish is not permitted at all.
We thank you for your continued support in this matter and
ask that you help us ensure your children attend school in the
correct uniform.

Year 3 - International Week Activities
Issue 19/Page 4
Over the last few weeks it has been very busy at BIS and especially in Year 3! Our
International week was one of our biggest and best, with each class visiting a variety of
different countries around the world. We went sailing with the Vikings, we gazed upon
the ancient pyramids of the Egyptians, tested our strength whilst in the Republic of
Congo, and we also knocked down the Berlin Wall! A few of us were even sacrificed to
the gods in ancient Peru! We had great fun working with our buddy classes and showing
them how to do new things.

We would like to thank the PTG for helping Year 3 with our juice sale at the end of
Term 1 and for boosting our contributions to the WWF to protect endangered species
from deforestation. As a year group and with the PTG, we raised a huge $275! A
HUGE thank you to all of our parents and carers for their support and generosity.
Thank you for your kind
donations everyone!
We also met a lot of friends and family in the wonderful Global Café! Thank you to the
parents of year 3 for your contributions and hard work!

Community Service Department
Issue 19/Page 8
Year 4 have begun their community project this week and are looking to discover and develop an understand-
ing of animal related issues. Ms Clover from ‘EAST’ came in and spent some time meeting and teaching all of
our year 4 classes here at AP1.
The Endangered Asian Species Trust is a BIS Community partner charity linked with Monkey World in the
UK. They are based on Dau Tien Island in Cat Tien National Park approximately 4 hours drive north of
HCMC.
An interesting fact that Ms Clover told the children was how to tell the difference between a monkey and an
ape - would you know the difference? The easiest and quickest way to tell them apart is that apes don’t have
tails.
Thank you very much to Ms Clover for taking the time to come and visit our students. It was a wonderful expe-
rience for everyone.
Mr Kevin Halpin
Community Service Officer
Ms Clover gave an enlightening
presentation to the children and
talked about the illegal pet
trade and the plight of the mon-
keys and apes here in southern
Vietnam. She explained how
numbers of wild primates are
getting fewer and fewer and
how EAST are focused on the
rescue, rehabilitation and re-
lease of endangered species
back into the wild. She also
told us how important it is to
educate everyone to teach them
that these wonderful intelligent
creatures are wild animals that
are happy swinging in the trees
and not domesticated pets to be
kept in cages.
