iTunes  U  ,  a  sharing  and  learning  opportunity  in  Science  and  Engineering  at  St.  Hilda’s.

Is there such a thing as a FREE lunch?

There is today!!!

But first some history...

1994 - 1998 England UK

• School Seaford Head Community College. • Teacher of Science and Senior Biology • Taught adult education in Human Health and

Physiology. • Introduction of computers.

Welcome to the new age of technology!!!

1998 - 2000 Cayman Islands

• School George High School, George Town. • Teacher of Science for years 6-8 • Production of class booklets to match units

taught. • These were later adapted to help students

with specific learning needs.

2000 - 2010 New Zealand

• Head of Science & TIC of Senior Physics. • Assistant Principal. • Production of PowerPoint presentations to

deliver full Physics program. • Produced interactive Physics site using

Moodle

GRAVITY

2010 - Present Australia

• Teacher of Science and Senior Physics • Production of PowerPoint presentations to

deliver full Science and Physics program. • Development of course booklets into

electronic versions that linked to PowerPoints.

• Introduction to Blackboard as a platform for the loading and distribution of course information.

• Developed assessment tools in Blackboard for student self-monitoring.

• A long came iTunesU.

• iTunesU was introduced by Peter Crawley and Geoff Powell.

• The introducing of St Hildas Institute

• Overall approach is giving information freely to the world via iTunesU.

Peter Crawley

Geoff Powell

(Head of school)

(Head of St Hilda's Learning Institute)

How did this begin?

• Previous PowerPoint designed to help students while away on camp.

!

!

• Geoff mentioned this powerpoint could be made into a course.

!

!

• Within 2 days went to number 1 in the world.

So what does a course look like?Logical flow of material as if in the classroom as a review as what is taught.

Video of Sesame Street

Displacement Reaction

Video practicals These have narration showing what is going on useful for those students who have missed the practical. Lack of materials or lab access need not be a problem. Collection set for Physics, Earth Science and Chemistry.

Link here to the Physics

Collection and run through what

is in it.

Currently most courses have an iBook textbook

Link here to the iBook and run

through what is in it.

iBook Pop Quiz

Link here to the iBook Pop Quiz and run through

what is in it.

You Tube video or other links to other courses can be uploaded. Meaning students have access to review information that can't be looked at in class.

Does it work?Year 8 Chemistry test info showed an increase in results by a whole grade from 2012 - 2013.

Exp 2 = Convection Exp 4 = Current in series Exp 6 = Voltage in food

So what does this mean for you?• Download and use anything that has been

produced. • Don't be worried as each course has been

linked to the Australian Curriculum as best we can.

• Use all or some of what is available. • Save time to be innovative. • Make your own course and add your

knowledge. • All though science & technology have been

discussed here look what's available.

ITALY  Dear  Professor,    I'm  an  italian  teacher  and  I  have  really  appreciated  your  beau:ful  video  learning  lessons  downloaded  from  iTunes  U.  Par:cularly,  I've  seen  lessons  of  Civil  engineering  introduced  by  Professor  Brandt  Ward,  where  he  has  used  an  excellent  popup  camera  window  always  in  the  foreground  of  his  slides.  So  I've  only  an  informa:on:  which  is  the  soFware  used  to  obtain  the  popup  camera  window?  Compliments  again  for  the  lessons.  Thank  you  for  your  feedback.

SPAIN  !

Dear  Prof.  Ward,My  name  is  Ruben  Mojica  and  I  look  forward  to  learning  from  your  class.  I  am  really  excited  about  this  subject  as  I  hope  it  will  strengthen  concepts  in  design,  and  building  custom  motorcycles.
