Steps to Adding or Subtracting Rational Expressions with DIFFERENT denominators!
1. Find the Lowest Common Denominator (LCD)
2. Multiply the top and bottom of both fractions by the LCD; expand the top
3. Find common terms; add/subtract accordingly
4. Rewrite with the new numerator and denominator
5. Express restrictions

The LCDThe LCD must contain the greatest number of any factor that appears in the denominator of either fraction. If a factor appears once in either or both denominators, include it only once. If a factor appears twice in any denominator, include it twice.
Begin by factoring the denominators. Find all the different terms (remember, a factor appearing twice in a single denominator counts as 2)
