A LEVEL RESULTS

• 100% A* ‐ E• 52.4% A* ‐ B• 35.4 Average Point Score• In other words students are ‐

• getting excellent results• getting into 1st choice University• gaining high quality apprenticeships

LINEAR A LEVELS

• All exams at the end of the two years.• Mocks were taken at end of Year 12 • Exception to this is Maths, Further Maths, Media, 

Product Design, and Government & Politics all of which have been reformed from Sep 2017.  

• Assessment is mainly by examination ‐ English Language and Literature, English Literature, History, Geography and Modern Foreign Languages have some coursework

NON REFORMED A LEVELS

Maths, Further Maths, Media, Product Design, and Government & Politics All students who study these subjects have sat AS exams.

Resits:• If they have not done so well in 1 or more units

• Advice – not too many resits.

• Based on tests in assessment weeks and mock exams (Jan)

ATTENDANCE

• Every student is allocated a professional tutor as well as a pastoral tutor. 

• Students meet their PT once a week to review their academic progress.  

• PTs work alongside the student and subject teachers to help students develop their knowledge and key skills required to be academically successful.  

• Throughout Yr 13 they provide advice and support on UCAS and employment/  apprenticeship opportunities.

• Attendance• School/paid work balance• Homework• Awareness of key dates• Maintain contact with school and 6th Form Team• Ask your son/daughter if you can see their folders and the work they are currently doing, check their PLCs

• Expect 30 hours per week• Access to a quiet place to work and removal of

distractions• Help with organisation

HOMEWORK

• Guidance is on website, in handbook and in the Sixth Form Centre for students.

• Students must be in smart, business dress

DRESS CODE

Year 13:• Forums every fortnight• 15th October: Oxbridge/Medical/Veterinary applications submitted.

• 31st October: General UCAS applications sent by student• Thursday 8th February 2018 @ 6pm ‐ Finance Information Evening at Kingdown

What is an Apprenticeship?• Apprenticeships are paid employment with training, leading to relevant qualifications for the job

• Currently 500,000 + apprentices in UK (more than 10,000 in the South West) and number is increasing

• Available in over 250 different industry sectors

Levels of Apprenticeship

DEGREE APPRENTICESHIP – LEVEL 5+

HIGHER APPRENTICESHIP – LEVEL 4

ADVANCED APPRENTICESHIP – LEVEL 3

INTERMEDIATE APPRENTICESHIP – LEVEL 2

Key benefits of doing an Apprenticeship

• Receive a wage, don’t incur student debt and get paid holidays

• Earn more as you become more skilled and experienced

• Get trained and gain new skills and qualifications

• Have employment contract and can often lead to permanent work

• Build up confidence, independence, take on responsibility

What successful applicants have learnt

• Finding an apprenticeship (or a job) can take both time

and commitment

• It is important to achieve the best grades possible

• Any evidence of work can make a big difference (part 

time, voluntary or work experience are all useful)

• A good quality CV / cover letter is vital

Timeline for action: 2017‐2018

• Pre Xmas 2017 ‐ Many apprenticeship schemes with larger 

organisations recruiting for September 2018 are open NOW

• Early 2018 onwards – apply for local apprenticeship / 

employment vacancies

• Throughout the year – try to gain work experience, voluntary 

work, other broader experiences to support applications
