Mooring fields are no wake zones. Watch for sea turtles!

Moorings placed in seagrass beds should consider ecofriendly tackle like floating line and a helix anchor.

Prevent seagrass scarring! It can take up to 10 years for scars like this to fully heal.

Register your private mooring each year with the following information: GPS location, an up-to-date image of your registered vessel or your current vessel registration, mooring permit fee

Mooring decals must be displayed on your vessel and the vessel registration ID must be on your mooring buoy.

Private moorings may not be used by anyone other than the registered owner unless authorized by DPNR.Three private mooring areas are located within the East End Marine Park. No fishing is allowed inside the barrier reef except with special permits for specific areas.

BE CAREFUL

During hurricanes, it is recommended to store your vessel out of the water. If your vessel must remain on a mooring, inspect your lines and tackle to account for changing winds and storm surge.

Private moorings can be installed in the following areas with a permit from DEE: Frederiksted Harbor, Salt River, Christiansted Harbor, Chenay Bay, Teague Bay, and Cottongarden Bay.

You must renew your private mooring permit every year by June 30th. Failure to renew risks the removal of your tackle by DPNR.

Have your mooring tackle inspected at least once a year to ensure it’s safe for holding your vessel.

In 2017, nearly 500 vessels were displaced, damaged or sunk by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Don’t let yours be next!
