No fishing is allowed inside the barrier reef except with special permits for specific areas. REMEMBER BE CAREFUL During hurricanes, it is recommended to store your vessel out of the water. If your vessel must remain on a mooring, inspect your lines and tackle to account for changing winds and storm surge. Private moorings can be installed in the following areas with a permit from DEE: Frederiksted Harbor, Salt River, Chrisansted Harbor, Chenay Bay, Teague Bay, and Coongarden Bay. You must renew your private mooring permit every year by June 30th. Failure to renew risks the removal of your tackle by DPNR. Have your mooring tackle inspected at least once a year to ensure it’s safe for holding your vessel. In 2017, nearly 500 vessels were displaced, damaged or sunk by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
