Iren Energia hydroelectric power
plants have a total installed capacity
of 600 MW. They are situated in Valle
Orco, Val di Susa, on the river Po on
the outskirts of Turin and in the pro-
vince of Salerno and Avellino (Tuscia-
no Power Centre).
The Valle Orco hydroelectric power sy-
stem has a total capacity of 300 MW and
is made up of the following power plants:
Agnel-Serrù-Villa, Ceresole-Rosone,
Rosone-Bardonetto, Bardonetto-Pont,
Valsoera-Telessio, Telessio-Eugio-Ro-
sone and S.Lorenzo-Rosone.
The Pont Ventoux- Susa hydroelectric
power plant has an installed capacity
of 150 MW.
The run-of-river plant with the two
daily regulation reservoirs of Val Clarea
and Gorge draws water from the Dora
Riparia torrent.
The plant also has a pumping system
that enables water to be transferred
from the reservoir in the valley of Gor-
ge di Susa to the upstream plant of Val
Clarea for the subsequent generation
of electricity at peak demand times.
The hydroelectric power system on
the river Po has an overall capacity of
12 MW and consists of the following
plants: Po-Stura - S. Mauro and La Log-
gia-Moncalieri.
The Tusciano Power Centre consists of
seven plants and has an installed ca-
pacity of about 100 MW.
In the province of Genoa, Iren Energia
uses the electricity from the hydro-
electric power plants of Canate, Bru-
gneto and Torre Quezzi, which has a
total capacity of 10 MW.
In the province of Reggio Emilia, Iren
Energia uses the electricity produced
by the hydroelectric power plant of
Baiso on the river Secchia, which has
a capacity of 2 MW.
Hydroelectric Power Plants
Thermoeletric Power Plants
Iren Energia holds thermoelectric po-
wer plants situated in Turin, Turbigo,
Genoa, Parma and Reggio Emilia with
a total electrical capacity of 2,500 MW
and a thermal capacity of 950 MW.
In addition, as a supplementary and
back up supply, Iren Energia has an
overall heat production capacity throu-
gh conventional heating systems of
1,350 MW.
In Turin, Iren Energia owns three coge-
neration plants with an electrical capa-
city of 400 MW: two of them situated
at the Moncalieri plant and one at the
Torino Nord plant, for a total capacity of
about 1,200 MW of electrical power and
740 MW of thermal power.
The heat produced by the cogenerators
is used to provide district heating for 55
million cubic metres, thus making Turin
the city with the largest district heating
system in Italy.
Additionally, the system includes four
supplementary and back up heat only
boilers in Moncalieri, Torino Nord and
the BIT, Polytechnic and Mirafiori Nord
areas, as well as the heat accumula-
tors situated at the Torino Nord and
Polytechnic plants and in the martinet-
to Center.
In Turbigo, Iren Energia has a thermo-
electric power plant with an electrical
capacity of 1,200 MW.
In Reggio Emilia, Iren Energia operates
the Rete 2 cogeneration plant that sup-
plies the district heating system sup-
ported by the thermal power plants of
Via Sardegna, Pappagnocca and Rete 1.
In Parma, the district heating system is
supplied by the cogeneration plant in
Via Lazio supported by the Parco Far-
nese thermal power plant. In addition,
the University Campus plant operates in
island mode.
In Piacenza, the network is fed by the
Via Diete di Roncaglia plant; the ther-
mal load is supplemented with heat
purchased from the Edipower plant.
In Genoa, Iren Energia holds the Sam-
pierdarena cogeneration system with
supplementary and back up boiler sec-
tions, which supplies heat to the nei-
ghbouring areas.
Aem Torino Distribuzione is responsible
for managing, renovating and develo-
ping the electricity distribution grids in
the cities of Turin and Parma.
Due to its know-how, Aem Torino Distri-
buzione ensures high levels of quality in
the field of design, construction, main-
tenance and renovation of electricity
grids, and the management of complex
technological systems.
Aem Torino Distribuzione coordinates
field activities related to planned and
unplanned maintenance works and to
connections, supervises the troublesho-
oting and fault repairing activities and
handles remote control and emergen-
cies on the networks.
The MV grids of Turin and Parma (high
density municipalities) consist of under-
ground cables. In order to safeguard the
quality of the service, all the lines may
normally be back fed and some rooms
include remote control operating ele-
ments, which, together with devices
that detect fault current, enable the ne-
cessary disconnecting operations from
the Remote Control Centres in order to
quickly restore the service.
The medium and low voltage networks
also supply the public lighting and traf-
fic light systems and the tram and trol-
leybus conversion systems.
In Turin, the medium voltage network
and the low voltage network extend for
2,256 kilometres and 2,750 kilometres,
respectively. The system consists of 9
HV/MV transformer stations and 3,806
MV/LV substations.
In Parma, the medium voltage and low
voltage distribution networks cover a
distance of 814 kilometres and 1,503
kilometres, respectively.
The system consists of 3 HV/MV tran-
sformer stations and 1,120 MV/LV sub-
stations.
District Heating
Iride Servizi supervises the activities in
the field of technological services for
public authorities and of facility mana-
gement.
Iride Servizi provides the city of Turin
with the public lighting service, the
traffic light service, the management of
the electricity and heating systems of
town council buildings and the Global
Technological Service management of
important public buildings.
Iride Servizi is highly qualified in the
development of energy saving solu-
tions (since 2005 it has had E.S.Co. cer-
tification from the Authority for Electri-
city and Gas) and in the construction of
plants for the production of electricity
from renewable sources (photovoltaic,
solar thermal and biomass systems)
and similar (cogeneration plants).
In Turin, Iride Servizi manages the pu-
blic lighting service for a system made
up of 96,000 light points supplied by
an electricity network that extends for
about 2,900 kilometres.
In the field of monument lighting, Iride
Servizi has gained considerable expe-
rience and has provided lighting for the
Cathedral, Piazza Castello, Palazzo Rea-
le and the Basilica of Superga.
In Turin, Iride Servizi also manages the
traffic light service, which consists of
670 sets of light with 8,800 supports,
and supervises the management of
the heating, electrical and special sy-
stems of town council buildings.
Its activity concerns about 800 buil-
dings with a total heated volume of
8,100,000 cubic metres, equivalent to
over 8% of the buildings in Turin.
Iride Servizi also provides global service
management for important public buil-
dings and museums, including the Law
Courts, the Mole Antonelliana tower
and Palazzo Madama.
This activity consists in managing the
electrical, heating, air-conditioning, lift
and special systems.
The IT infrastructure and connectivity
in the cities of Turin and Genoa are
managed by the controlled companies
AemNet and SasterNet, respectively.

return pipes, to serve a total volume of
55 million cubic metres, that is almost

Following the Torino Nord cogeneration
plant commercial operation, which en-
sures district heating for another 15 mil-
lion cubic metres, Turin has consolidated
its position as the city with the largest
district heating system in Italy and has
become one of the largest in Europe.
Heat produced by Iren Energia cogene-
ration plants is also dispatched to the
neighbouring municipalities of Monca-
lieri and Nichelino for a total volume of
2 million cubic metres.
In Reggio Emilia, the district heating
network extends for 213 kilometres and
serves a volume of 12.5 million cubic
metres.
In Parma, the network covers a distan-
ce of 72 kilometres, providing district
heating for a volume of 4.4 million cu-
bic metres.
In Piacenza, the network extends for
18 kilometres and serves a volume of 1
million cubic metres.
In Genoa, the district heating network
covers a distance of 12 kilometres.
Technological Services

Iren Energia hydroelectric power

Iren Energia’s core businesses are the production and
distribution of electricity and the production and distribu-
tion of thermal energy for district heating.
In addition, due to its expertise in the field of technolo-
gical services, facility management, energy planning and
consultancy are additional Iren Energia core activities.
Iren Energia hydroelectric power plants, situated in the Pro-
vince of Turin (Valle Orco, Val di Susa, San Mauro and Monca-
lieri) and in the provinces of Salerno and Avellino (Tusciano
Power Centre), have a total installed capacity of about 600
MW. Moreover, the electricity produced by the hydroelectric
power plants in the provinces of Genoa and Reggio Emilia
contributes to Iren Energia overall electrical capacity.
Iren Energia cogeneration plants are situated in Turin, Ge-
noa, Parma and Reggio Emilia; their overall capacity rea-
ches 1,300 MW of electrical power, 950 MW of thermal
power and provides district heating for a total volume of
about 80 million cubic metres.
Iren Energia also holds the Turbigo thermoelectric power
plant in the province of Milan with a total electrical capa-
city of almost 1,200 MW.

Iren Energia pursues the values of sustainable deve-

In Turin, it operates the district heating networks (500 ki-
lometres of double piping) and gas distribution networks
(1,300 kilometres).
The company AEM Torino Distribuzione dispatches electricity
in Turin and Parma, managing 7,500 kilometres of medium
and low voltage power lines.
Iride Servizi operates in the field of technological services
and facility management.
In the city, it controls 96,000 public lighting points, all the 670
sets of traffic lights and the heating and electricity systems
of 800 municipal buildings. In Parma, it coordinates the pu-
blic lighting system.
Iride Servizi has a consolidated experience in the fields of
global services and monument lighting.
