Frantz Fanon was a psychiatrist, originally from Martinique, who had become a spokesman for the Algerian revolution against French colonialism. Embittered by his experience with racism in the French Army, he gravitated to radical politics, Sartrean existentialism and the philosophy of black consciousness known as negritude. His 1952 book, ‘’Black Skin, White Masks,’’ offers a penetrating analysis of racism and of the ways in which it is internalized by its victims.

A full-length film about the murder of Boer prisoners of war. Based on a true account of the Bushveldt Carbineers who fought in the Northern Transvaal in 1901 and, acting on orders of the British high command, summarily executed prisoners. The consultant for the film was Dr. Carl Schulenburg of Pretoria whose father was Dr. August Schulenburg, the founder of the Boer Industrial Association on Burt’s Island. The Association was responsible for the making and marketing of the Boer prisoner carvings.

Amilcar Cabral was the leader of the Liberation Movement of Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau. He was born in Guinea in 1924 and assassinated in Conakry in 1973. Regarded as a true icon of African history, this documentary provides considerable background to this revolutionary giant.

A documentary film about the capture of German submarine U505 off the coast of West Africa on June 4th, 1944. The Germans never learned of its capture and it was secretly towed to Bermuda. From information gleaned from the boat, the Allies were able to pinpoint the positions of all German U-boats in the Atlantic. The crew were kept incommunicado and against the rules of the Geneva Convention. The captain Harold Lange was a secret POW in Bermuda and was the last prisoner ever held here.
