T his weekend's meditation reminds us that the
while the land of Zebulon was one of the first
to fall to enemy forces, it has later been ex-
alted. No penance is forever! In fact, the purpose of
its "fall" may well have been to allow Gentiles to en-
ter it and settle it, for then they would be living closer
to the Mystery of Israel's God and, with any luck,
might come to see the Light and come to worship
Him--especially since some of the descendants of
those Israelite folk who had been dispersed are re-
turning, and so the Gentiles now living there will see
the eternal fidelity of God. So whereas once
"Zebulon" knew only mourning, now it knows rejoic-
ing. The Gospel sees this very region as a region
blessed by Christ's journey there. The death of John
the Baptist is presented as a clarion call in Christ's
life: He knows He must be quick! And so, He goes to
this area of the Holy Land of Israel that is populated
by all those Gentiles and their descendants, not many
"fervent Jews," and makes His disciples from the
simple people He finds there. So, we learn that WE,
ourselves, were "chosen" for discipleship, NOT be-
cause we were particularly brilliant or fervent, but
because we WEREN'T! Like the choice of disciples
of old, Christ has chosen us because we look differ-
ent from traditionally religious people. What does
this mean for you this week? How will it enrich your
discipleship?
- Fr. Bill Axe
quecer a tu discipulado?
- Padre Bill Axe
Would you like to add family members who are sick to our Sick List? Please call the Parish Office: (323) 935-8127
May God bless our Parishioners, Amen.

nas.
Pongamos a
Hermana Karen
I n our Gospel today, we see Jesus take center
stage in the unfolding drama, taking up the
message that the kingdom of God is at hand. He
preaches it and calls people to follow Him. We see
the first disciples respond without hesitation and give
up all to go with Him. The way they responded may
seem a little unrealistic, but Matthew wants to em-
phasize the sense of urgency that accompanied Jesus’
message. How do we respond?
Another point I hear in all three readings is
the call to end disputes and unpleasantness between
people. We are all called to follow Christ and here
we band together as a Church. Let us put Christ first
in our hearts and minds and work together to bring
this love to the community we live and work in.
Have a blessed week,
Sr. Karen

"NOBODY CAN DO EVERYTHING BUT
EVERYBODY CAN DO SOMETHING"
Thank you Church Ministries who have made the choice to continue to serve and support the 2014 St. Agatha S.H.A.R.E. Saturday Outreach Program for the needy of the community. Many of you serve in multiple ministries and you still find it in your heart to reach out and lend support with your ministry when called upon to serve in the church with your time, talent and
treasure. It is not always easy to decide how, when or where to share, give back or pass on the blessings that God has given you. Is it? Some have voiced that to schedule church groups to share with the Saturday meal program infringes on the time, energy and respect of the groups that are asked. We welcome and invite participa-tion from any of the church membership, ministries, choirs, groups, families and individuals that are interested and want to share in the op-portunity to be a blessing for
our needy guests. We have had one person many times in a ministry make the entire dona-tion for the ministry when they are scheduled other ministries rotate their members during the two or three times per year when they are schedule. Choices are up to the individu-als in each ministry if they want to participate when scheduled. Some ministries because of low membership or reported lack of membership interest have chosen not to participate. We ask that if ministries/groups that are not listed and want to serve during 2014 in any of
the open dates to call the PC Office. We ask ministries that have been schedule and want to be removed from the rota-tion to immediately. notify the PC Office at 323-935-8127. We pray that the God in you gives you the comfort that is needed to reach out to a stranger this week and do a act of kindness that can never be repaid.
Blessings,
The S.H.A.R.E. Ministry
