‘Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God
what belongs to God’.
This is the response of Jesus to some Jews who asked
him whether or not they were to pay tax to the govern-
ment.
We must understand, firstly, that this question was posed
with an evil intention; to put Jesus into the test, so that
they could ridicule him and find something to uses
against him. What intention do I have when I ask a per-
son a question or in any encounter I have with someone?
Is it an evil or a good intention?
By the response, ‘Give to Caesar what belongs to Cae-
sar and to God what belongs to God’, Jesus wants us to
understand that as Christians, we have a dual nationali-
ty. We are citizens of heaven and citizens of our respec-
tive earthly nations. We have to pay our allegiance to
both states. However, considering that God is the crea-
tor of all, any earthly law that contradicts His laws must
be considered a bad law and such a law must be reject-
ed by Christians.

Intentions for All Souls
November is the month dedicated to our beloved deceased. There will be cards and envelopes available for you to make intentions for your loved ones that will be remembered during the month of November. Addition-ally, we now have a ledger so that all names of our deceased will be en-tered and remembered in prayer. A stipend of $10 minimum per inten-tion card is required. The tradition of praying for the deceased is found
in 2nd Maccabees 12:43, and has been an ongoing tradition in the Catholic faith.
