The Staf f Par ish
Relations Committee is
pleased to welcome
Amy Henderson as our
new part-time Director
of Children and Family
Ministries. Amy and her
family have been an
integral part of our
ministries for several
years now, and we are
thrilled that she is
stepping into this
position.
Amy is married to Ryan
Henderson, and they
have 2 children. Court-
ney is active in our
youth department, and
Maxwell is a busy 4 year
old who attends our
School for Little People.
Amy has taken on a big
job! She will be over-
seeing all our children
and family ministries,
including our:
Nursery
Children’s Sunday
School
Children’s Church
Vacation Bible
School
District camp
Family events
And serving on the
board of the School
for Little People
She will be the first to
tell you that it “takes a
village” to make all
these ministries run
efficiently and effective-
ly. Don’t wait for her to
call you…call her and
ask how you can help
today!
Proverbs 22:6 (RSV)
Train up a child in the
way he should go,
and when he is old he
will not depart from it.
Matthew 19:14 (RSV)
Jesus said, “Let the
children come to me,
and do not hinder them;
for to such belongs the
kingdom of heaven.”
Thanks, Amy!!

One of the most important things to all young people is establishing their own
identity. As teenagers, we all wanted to make our own decisions and become
independent from our parents. This process is both freeing and challenging to
students and their parents.
As we establish our identity, it’s crucial that Christ is the most important piece.
(This applies to us adults as well.) Sometimes the choice of putting our identity in
Christ is made at a very early age and sometimes it’s made later in life. For every
Sunday night youth meeting in 2019, we will be tying back our devotional or
lesson to our identity in Christ. There are so many ways to explore this concept.
Part of our identity is learning about the early Christians. Part of it is learning
about the Methodist church. Another part of learning our identity is learning more
about ourselves and how we make our decisions. We will continue our small
groups on the 2nd and 4th Sundays and will continue our other events and
traditions throughout the year. But it’s all about our identity in Christ. We can’t
wait to bring our students even closer to God in 2019.
God Bless You All in 2019 and Beyond,
Love, Kim, Vannysa and Bryson

December was another busy month for Society. We received many calls,
some of them were especially
touching.
One family of nine, including a deaf,
partially blind mother-in-law who can-not speak, requested rental assistance.
Both parents work but the mom had spent a month at the bedside of their
one year old daughter who had been
at Texas Children’s Hospital with can-cer. We were able to help with some of
their rent.

A man called who had just lost his job
in a local restaurant. He had been staying in a local hotel, but had no
more money. We told him about the Salvation Army shelter, but also asked
if he had someone to stay with in
another city. He said that he had someone to stay with in San Antonio.
We established that this person would let him stay with him until he got on
his feet. Then we were able to buy him a bus ticket to San Antonio and give
him a ride to the bus station in
Angleton.
On Sunday, February 3rd, the youth group will be having our annual Superbowl
Sub Sandwich sale after all three worship services. We’ll have turkey, ham and
combo sandwiches. All donations go toward UM Army registration fees, safety
supplies and building supplies.
Don’t cook for the Superbowl. Just grab a sub sandwich or 2 or 10. They will
be prepared fresh on Sunday morning and offered for donations after all three
worship services.
