WARM UPOne of the themes in “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” is the power of the imagination. Using textual evidence, describe one time that Ichabod lets the power of his imagination loose. HINTS: page 163, 181, 182-185 (Ride in woods- use if you think Brom Bones was playing a prank on Ichabod.

1. Prediction Stories- We wrote these outside before we read anything or knew anything.

2. Word Splash Definitions- the Dutch, Washington Irving, Sleepy Hollow, etc.

3. Journal #1- It was a dark and stormy night… (completed with a partner)

4. Vocabulary 1- 20 words and definitions (same as on quiz)5. Imagery- This was a warm up. We defined imagery and found

COPY THIS RESPONSE- Word for Word- Add to yesterday’s warm up.In the text, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” one of the major themes is the power of the imagination. For example, when Ichabod is in the woods, he freaks himself out and sees a shape in the darkness that is “cloaked in the gloom like some gigantic monster ready to spring.” His imagination is so powerful that he is SURE a ghost or goblin is in the woods. For Ichabod, imagination is reality, and he does not even consider the option that there may not be a ghost in the woods. Ichabod’s imagination has great power over him.
