Chesnee sprintedto a 35-0 halftimelead en route to a 35-14 victory overAndrew Jackson inthe Class AA DivisionII Upper State playoffsat Chesnee on Fridaynight.

Chesnee, 10-1 andseeded number one inthe Upper Statebracket, scored onfour consecutive pos-sessions in the firsthalf to build an insur-mountable lead.

“We get down andgive up some bigplays, but we battleback and play hard inthe third and fourthquarters,” said AJcoach David Moore.“We just were notconsistent in our playtonight.

“Give Chesneecredit, their sizeadvantage causedsome mis-matches forus,” noted Moore. “They also are able tostrike quickly, andtheir big-plays turnedout to be huge forthem.”

The Chesneeoffense was paced byquarterback DarriusProctor, who threwthree touchdownpasses, as well asrushing for a 15 yardscore.

The Eagles openedthe scoring with afour-play, 50 yardtouchdown drive.

Proctor finished offthe march with a 15yard camper. Panayi-otis Kartgialis kickedthe first of five extrapoints for the Eagles.

Late in the firstquarter, Eagle full-back Jared Fowler

rumbled 13 yards tocap the six-play, 46yard scoring drive toextend the Chesneelead to 14-0.

left in the half for a21-0 lead.

The score was setup by the Eaglesdefense holding AJ ondowns at the AJ 40yard line.

Whitley found CorleyFaulkenberry on a44-yard reception,but CHS defensiveback Quan Lylespopped the ball looseand fell on it at theEagle 16.

Chesnee turned themiscue into points, asProctor directed a 84yard, seven play scor-ing drive. Bobby Fooswas the recipient of a36 yard scoring strikefrom Proctor. With8:15 left in the half,CHS led 28-0.

The Volunteersdrove to the Chesnee30 before turning theball over on downs.Proctor marched theEagles 70 yards in sixplays for the half ’sfinal score. Proctorthrew a 36 yard scor-ing strike to MarkellHill.

The Volunteersmarched methodicallydown the field on itsfirst possession of thesecond half to theCHS seven, beforeturning the ball overon downs.

The AJ defensehelped set up the firstVolunteer touchdownwhen Quadarius Fairpicked off an errantProctor pass andreturned it 20 yardsto the Chesnee 35.

Two plays later,Whitley found Fair fora 19 yard touchdown

pass. Luke Kenning-ton converted the PATand AJ had cut thelead to 35-7.

Midway in thefourth quarter, the AJdefense held Chesneeon downs at the AJ28. Whitley maneu-vered the Vols to pay-dirt in 10 plays. Theclincher came on afour yard scoring passfrom Whitley to Fair.The Kennington PATmade the final score35-14.

The big play in thescoring drive was a 32yard pass play fromWhitley to ZackClyburn.

Fair eclipsed theTD reception in a sea-son with 24 and felltwo TDs short of theAJ record of 29touchdowns in a sea-son, held by AntonioSowell.

Whitley also set theschool record for TDsthrown in a seasonwith 24.
