Chesnee, 10-1 and seeded number one in the Upper State bracket, scored on four consecutive pos- sessions in the first half to build an insur- mountable lead. “We get down and give up some big plays, but we battle back and play hard in the third and fourth quarters,” said AJ coach David Moore. “We just were not consistent in our play tonight. “Give Chesnee credit, their size advantage caused some mis-matches for us,” noted Moore. “ They also are able to strike quickly, and their big-plays turned out to be huge for them.” The Chesnee offense was paced by quarterback Darrius Proctor, who threw three touchdown passes, as well as rushing for a 15 yard score. The Eagles opened the scoring with a four-play, 50 yard touchdown drive. Proctor finished off the march with a 15 yard camper. Panayi- otis Kartgialis kicked the first of five extra points for the Eagles. Late in the first quarter, Eagle full- back Jared Fowler rumbled 13 yards to cap the six-play, 46 yard scoring drive to extend the Chesnee lead to 14-0. Proctor found receiver Chase Elder in the corner of the end zone with 10:42 left in the half for a 21-0 lead. The score was set up by the Eagles defense holding AJ on downs at the AJ 40 yard line. AJ continued to battle and QB Kolby Whitley found Corley Faulkenberry on a 44-yard reception, but CHS defensive back Quan Lyles popped the ball loose and fell on it at the Eagle 16. Chesnee turned the miscue into points, as Proctor directed a 84 yard, seven play scor- ing drive. Bobby Foos was the recipient of a 36 yard scoring strike from Proctor. With 8:15 left in the half, CHS led 28-0. The Volunteers drove to the Chesnee 30 before turning the ball over on downs. Proctor marched the Eagles 70 yards in six plays for the half’s final score. Proctor threw a 36 yard scor- ing strike to Markell Hill. The Volunteers marched methodically down the field on its first possession of the second half to the CHS seven, before turning the ball over on downs. The AJ defense helped set up the first Volunteer touchdown when Quadarius Fair picked off an errant Proctor pass and returned it 20 yards to the Chesnee 35. Two plays later, Whitley found Fair for a 19 yard touchdown pass. Luke Kenning- ton converted the PAT and AJ had cut the lead to 35-7. Midway in the fourth quarter, the AJ defense held Chesnee on downs at the AJ 28. Whitley maneu- vered the Vols to pay- dirt in 10 plays. The clincher came on a four yard scoring pass from Whitley to Fair. The Kennington PAT made the final score 35-14. The big play in the scoring drive was a 32 yard pass play from Whitley to Zack Clyburn. Fair eclipsed the TD reception in a sea- son with 24 and fell two TDs short of the AJ record of 29 touchdowns in a sea- son, held by Antonio Sowell. Whitley also set the school record for TDs thrown in a season with 24. “I want to thank our seniors for the leadership that they have provided,” said Moore. “Also, I want to thank our fans for supporting us throughout the year. “We’ll get in the weight room soon, and get ready for next year” said Moore.
