Native Sheep in Karelia, Russia The population is fragmented and isolated.

Information is scarce as no records are kept. The size of the population is not known. A first small investigation in May 2005 shows that there are small herds of short tailed sheep between Lake Onega and Lake Ladoga as well as between Lake Ladoga and the Finnish border. Main part of the keepers are old women. There is also short tailed sheep in North Karelia Viena area (north of Lake Onega).
