KNOW YOUR LIMITS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON The holiday season is a time when some of us go overboard and enjoy too much of a good thing. If you drink alcohol,it’s important to know your limits.
On special occasions, like the holidays, reduce your risk of injury and harm by drinking no more than three drinks (forwomen) or four drinks (for men) on any single occasion.
Keep in mind that a safe amount of alcohol for one person may be toomuch for another. Things like age, sex, weight, and health history, meansalcohol can affect people differently. If you're an adult who doesn't weigha lot, is younger than 25 or older than 65, or isn't used to drinking, youneed to be even more careful about how much alcohol you drink.Reduce your long-term health risks by drinking no more than:• 10 drinks a week for women, with no more than two drinks a day most
days.• 15 drinks a week for men, with no more than three drinks a day most
days.• Plan non-drinking days every week to avoid developing a habit.
• If you choose to drink, here are some things youcan do to reduce yourrisk of getting sick orinjured:
Set limits for yourself andstick to it.• Drink slowly and have
no more than two drinksin a three hour period.
• For every alcoholicdrink have one non-alcoholic drink.
• Eat before and whileyou are drinking.
Drinking is a personalchoice. If you choose todrink know your limitsand remember there aretimes when there is a zerolimit. Do not drink whenyou are driving, takingmedicine or others drugsthat interact with alcohol, doing any kid ofdangerous physicalactivity, living withmental or physical healthproblems, living withalcohol dependence, pregnant or planning to bepregnant, responsible forthe safety of others orwhen making animportant decision.

When a child is vomiting and hasdiarrhea, there is a danger ofdehydration. Start with diluted applejuice promptly to replace the fluidlost. Begin with small amounts first ...a teaspoonful every 5 minutes andincrease as tolerated. But if symptomscontinue to worsen (no tears, drymouth, lack of urination), have thechild see a physician.Walking is always touted as being anideal exercise for everyone especiallyseniors. Also walking at a faster pacewill produce a lower risk of mortalitydue to all causes. The are of greatestbenefit is on on your heart withwalkers over the age of 60 having a46% lower risk of death due tocardiovascular disease and if theywalked faster, that lowered risk to53%. A “fast” walking pace is definedas 5-7 km/hr. Your speed should begoverned by your physical conditionso don’t push it. Any amount ofwalking is a good thing... about 2hours per week.
