In 2013, Indian River State College (IRSC) created the Virtual Campus to leverage new opportunities for flexible, web-based course delivery to benefit campus-based students as well as off-campus and distant students. IRSC now offers 15 Web-based degrees and hundreds of individual Web-based courses. About the Virtual CampusDynamic growth, changing student demographics, an increasing need for accessible lifelong learning, and advances in information technologies have transformed the educational environment. Indian River State College responds to these demands by providing a wide range of distributed learning strategies that provide flexibility and access to academic programs and students. Our goal is to be leaders in the application of new, leading-edge technologies for learning. In 2013, Indian River State College (IRSC) created the Virtual Campus to leverage new opportunities for flexible, web-based course delivery to benefit campus-based students as well as off-campus and distant students. IRSC offers 15 wholly online degrees and hundreds of individual online courses. Courses within the Virtual Campus degree programs are nationally certified through Quality Matters (QM). They are created with a consistent format, so students can focus on learning and easily find the materials they need. Each course is designed with a personal touch by experienced IRSC faculty members. Indian River State College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award Associate and Baccalaureate Degrees. IRSC participates in the Distance Learning Catalog provided by floridashines.com, and in the Southern Regional Education Board’s Electronic Campus. Florida is a member of SREB’s SECRRA reciprocity agreement with the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Oklahoma, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. Purpose StatementThe Virtual Campus serves as the central agent for online learning at IRSC, providing leadership in distance learning policies, strategies, and practices. The Virtual Campus increases access to high quality learning opportunities through the development and delivery of online and blended programs using the latest in empirical research in course design and effective online pedagogy. Content enhancement is supported by video services, who serve students and instructors through video and other instructional technology resources. • About

Master Course Process The Virtual Campus uses a comprehensive design and development process based on instructional design theory to create engaging online courses for Indian River State College students. Instructors who are selected to work with the Virtual Campus serve as a subject matter expert. The subject matter expert will collaborate with an instructional designer and a course developer to design and develop a master course by providing objectives and content. The Virtual Campus uses a course template to provide students access to courses with a familiar layout and navigation. The master course will be utilized by all instructors who teach the online course. All Virtual Campus courses use the master course template to address the standards from the Quality Matters Rubric.

Curriculum Maintenance Process The Virtual Campus encourages continuous improvement of the master courses through a process called curriculum maintenance. When a Virtual Campus master course requires curriculum maintenance, instructors discuss the required changes with their department and submit an online form to the instructional design team. The instructional designer will analyze the requested changes to ensure alignment with the course objectives. The Virtual Campus will communicate with the instructor who submitted the curriculum maintenance request when the request is complete. Curriculum maintenance requests will be implemented and deployed during the next semester.
