Once upon a time...

A mom couldn’t find soft cotton clothes for her baby.

Her baby kept getting rashes, and

she just could not figure out why

Until one day she discovered…

INSECTICIDES.

Did you know thatCotton is considered the world's 'dirtiest' crop due to its heavy use of insecticides, the most hazardous pesticide to human and animal health. Cotton covers 2.5% of the world's cultivated land yet uses 16% of the world's insecticides, more than any other single major crop.

• Aldicarb, parathion, and methamidopho, three of the most acutely hazardous insecticides to human health as determined by the World Health Organization, rank in the top ten most commonly used in cotton production. All but one of the remaining seven most commonly used are classified as moderately to highly hazardous.

• Aldicarb, cotton's second best selling insecticide and most acutely poisonous to humans, can kill a man with just one drop absorbed through the skin, yet it is still used in 25 countries and the US, where 16 states have reported it in their groundwater.

• It can take almost a 1/3 pound of synthetic fertilizers to grow one pound of raw cotton in the US, and it takes just under one pound of raw cotton to make one t-shirt.

She sure didn’t.

But the more she learned, the more she wanted to do something about it.

That’s when Under the Nile was born.

She decided to start her own organic baby clothing company,

using only the softest cotton and made without the use of

harmful pesticides and insecticides.

That was 13 years ago.

Back then, organic was only for

Hippies and Tree Huggers

But I digress…

This mom was on a mission.

She had heard about Egypt’s infamously luxurious cotton from her husband, who was

Egyptian.

So that’s where she headed to find a manufacturer who could produce this magical cotton that was soft as silk and chemical-free.

After searching f a r and wide, she finally found a company whose philosophy

matched hers:

Care for the environment, Care for people, and Producing a quality

product.

This company’s name was Sekem, and they soon formed a

partnership that was as natural as the clothes they made.

Since then, Under the Nile has been at the forefront of the Organic Industry-

growing to make not only baby clothing, but the best organic apparel, toys and

accessories money can buy.

This mom’s name?Janice Masoud.

And she and her husband Mohamed continue to work towards a cleaner,

healthier environment-
