Introduction
1 Uncertainty quantification of nuclear reaction modelparameters is very important for calculating the uncertaintiesassociated with the model predictions.
2 Model Parameters can be highly correlated.
3 Different techniques have been developed over time for theparameter estimation and uncertainty quantification, e.g.Extended Kalman Filter [1], χ2 minimization [2], Monte Carlotechniques [3] etc.
4 All these techniques either reacquire to calculate the Jacobianof model equation with respect to parameters or take verylarge computational time and power.
5 In order to overcome these issues, we have used the UnscentedTransform Kalman filter (UTKF) technique for the estimationof the optical model parameters and their uncertainties.

Optical model potential
1 We have used the Wood-Saxon phenomenological opticalmodel potential.
2 The phenomenological optical model potential for theinteraction of neutron and nucleus is generally given as:
U(r, E) = −VV (r, E)− iWV (r, E)− iWD(r, E)+
VSO(r, E).1.σ + iWSO(r, E).1.σ (1)
3 Different terms in this potential can be separated in to energydependent and independent parts.
4 Energy independent part can be further simplified and we getvarious parameters v1, v2, v3, w1, w2, d1, d2, d3,vso1, vso2, wso1, wso2 etc. which can be estimated by fittingthe model predictions to the experimental results.

Unscented Transform Kalman Filter forparameter estimation
1 Consider a N dimensional vectors of the experimentalmeasurements (d) and a prior estimate of the parametervector (θ0) of dimension L and their covariance matrix P0.
2 Let G(θk) is the model. Here the index k represents thecalculations for the kth experimental data set (k ∈ 1, 2, 3...∞).
3 We can write the time update equations for estimating theparameters for kth experimental data set as θ−k = θk−1,P−θk = Pk−1 +Rrk−1.
4 For θ−k and P−θk we can generate a L× (2L+ 1) dimensionalmatrix (W ) containing (2L+ 1) sets of the sigma pointsusing the unscented transform as given below.
Wk|k−1 =[θ−k θ−k +
√(L+ λ)P−θk θ−k −
√(L+ λ)P−θk

Unscented Transform Kalman Filter forparameter estimation
1 The corresponding weights to these sigma points are given inthe following equations
w(m)0 = λ/L+ λ (3)
w(c)0 = λ/(L+ λ) + (1− α2 + β) (4)
w(m)i = w
(c)i = 1/2(L+ λ); i = 1, 2, ....2L (5)
2 Using (2L+ 1) sets of the parameters, we can generate aN × (2L+ 1) dimensional matrix (D) containing (2L+ 1)sets of model predictions using the model function G(θk).
3 From this ensemble we will calculate the quantities required tocalculate the updated parameters and their covariance matrixgiven by following equations:
θk = θ−k +Kk(dk − d̂k) (6)
Pθk = P−θk −KkPd̂kd̂kKTk (7)

Methodology
1 The DWBA calculations of the differential cross sections forthe elastically scattered neutrons n+56Fe, n+45Sc andn+59Co, were compared with the experimental data fromEXFOR data library using the UTKF algorithm.
2 DWBA calculations were carried out using the TALYS nuclearreaction code.
3 We have determined 18 optical model parameters in this work.
4 We have used the global optical model parameters of Koningand Delaroche [5] as our initial estimate of the parameters, and an initial estimate of the uncertainties of theseparameters was used from ref. [6].

Results
1 The average χ2 value of the model prediction for n+56Fereaction was 11.683 with initial set of parameters, while 4.796with the new set of parameters.
2 The value of average χ2 was 15.990 with initial parametersand 5.018 with the new parameters for n+45Sc reaction.
3 Similarly for n+59Co reaction the average χ2 was 9.350 withthe initial set of parameters, while 3.238 with the updated setof parameters.
4 The total reaction cross sections obtained through the new setof the optical model parameters are consistent with theexperimental data.

Results
1 It is observed that parameters rv and v1 are stronglyanti-correlated.
2 It is also observed that most of the parameters areanti-correlated (e.g. rv and av, d1 and ad, ad and av, rd andad, rd and w2 etc.).
3 These observations are consistent with the observations ofDuan et al., [3], however they had used a completely differentmethod for calculating the correlation matrix.
4 Some of the parameters also indicate strong positivecorrelations e.g. d1 and d2, d1 and d3, av and v1, rd and rso,av and rd etc. are positively correlated

Conclusion
1 In this study, we have determined the optical modelparameters and their correlation matrices using the UnscentedTransform Kalman Filter technique successfully.
2 The results clearly verify the use of the UTKF for theparameter estimation and uncertainty quantification of theoptical model parameters.
3 This study clearly indicates that the optical model parametersare correlated to each other; hence these correlations shouldbe considered while using them to predict the nuclear reactioncross sections.
4 The quality of the estimated optical model parameters andtheir uncertainties depends on the quality of the initial set ofparameters, their uncertainties and the experimental dataused for the estimation.
