Parish Provision.
Last week’s news of Father Joe’s
transfer to Saint Brendan’s in Yoker, has
understandably unnerved all of us. As a
Diocese we are running out of priests,
and the scenario where parishes share a
priest will soon be commonplace. This is
new territory for all of us, but we will
endeavour to grow each parishes
unique identity and to bring our
communities together when that is best
and enriching for both parishes. On
Monday last, Father Joe, the chairmen
of both Parish Pastoral Councils( John
Mc Kenna Saint Lucy’s & Bill
Cunningham Sacred Heart) and myself
met to try to map out, in the short term,
a way forward. There will be another
priest coming to assist, hopefully before
Christmas. Until then, the Mill Hill
Fathers and Mgr Pat Osbourne will
celebrate the 6.00pm Vigil in Saint
Lucy’s and the 11.00am Mass in Saint
Lucy’s. After 18th September, daily
Mass in Saint Lucy’s will be 9.15am on
Tuesday & Friday only. Sacred Heart at
10.00am. All of these Mass times, in
both parishes may be subject to
change, in October. Change is never
easy for any of us, we would all like
things to stay as they are but they
cannot. If we embrace change in the
right spirit we can turn it into an
opportunity for the enrichment and
development of both parish families;
the one family of God. [Fr. John
Campbell]
Parish Organisation after 18th
September Fr. John Campbell has agreed that those serving in different capacities within the parish at present are most welcome to carry on with “the good work”. He thinks it important that the present practice whereby we keep the shutters open during the day until the late evening will continue. The present arrangement with Stuart Wilson and Amanda Lindsay to ensure the security of the premises will continue . It may well be that persons may feel that the time has come for them ‘to retire’ but it is most important for everyone to feel most welcome to carry on with their usual responsibilities. If you wish step down, can you please let me know. The Holy Father’s Universal Prayer Intention last month was, “That volunteers may give themselves generously to the service of the needy.” We are greatly blessed in the parish by
the many volunteers who give themselves so generously in the service of the Lord. Clerical Changes A list of changes within the diocese are on the noticeboard.
On Friday 11th September the House of Commons will debate and vote on a Bill to legalise assisted suicide. This
will put the most vulnerable people in our society at risk. A number of Scottish MP’s have indicated their intention to vote on this Bill. Please contact your MP, urging them to attend the debate and vote against the Bill. You can find guidance on meeting with or contacting your MP at the Care Not Killing website www.carenotkilling.org.uk/bill2015 Venerable Margaret Sinclair Mass, 22nd September, 4.30pm, St Patrick’s, Cowgate, Edinburgh. St. John Paul II states “Margaret could well be described as one of God’s little ones, who through her very simplicity, was touched by God with the strength of real holiness of life, whether as a child, a young woman, an apprentice, a factory worker, a member of the Trade Union or a professed Sister of religion….. I fully appreciate the aspirations of the Catholics of Scotland, and elsewhere, for that singular event [of canonisation] to be realised, and I know that you are praying that it may come about.” The devout and generous life of sister Mary Francis of the Five Wounds, provides a striking contemporary example of evangelical heroism, not only religious sisters but for people in every walk of life whether in the family or the school, in the parish or in the factory. Had it not been for the unbelievable joy and trust with which she embraced illness and suffering then the depth of her love for Christ would never have been known. If you would like to go to Edinburgh for the Pilgrimage, the please sign up at the back. If there is sufficient interest, we can book a bus. PPC Meeting, this Thursday, 10th September. If there is anything you would like to be discussed, please leave your suggestions in the black box outside the Sacristy. I think, technically, the Council ceases with the resignation of the parish priest, but I would like to meet with the members if only to express my sincere thanks for all their help and support. Clearly, however, it will also offer the opportunity to surface
any concerns about the present difficulty in which my resignation at the request of the Archbishop has caused. Thank you.
