TO TEACH OR NOT TO TEACH My journey through college.

Lori Hausvater

High School Graduation 1997I graduated from Liberty High School in

Clarksburg, WV on May 1997.

Early College DaysIn the fall on 1997, I entered WVU as a

Business Management and Marketing major.

I sailed through a few more years, looking for that perfect career path.

I changed schools and still did not have a definite idea of what I wanted to be when I grew up!

Quitting college.Perhaps not the best idea, but I had been in

college for quite a few years and had no goal to work toward.

Going to Dental Assistant School.Being a dental assistant was really fun and I loved it! I got to work with people of all ages and I was completely amazed with teeth!

After I quit college, I decided that I wanted to become a dental assistant.

Working with kids.It was while I was working at a local dentist office, that I decided that working with kidswas something that I would like to do.

Returning to college.

FSU School of EducationIn the fall of 2003, I returned to school and

enrolled in the teacher education program.

Fairmont State University

Teacher Education

I did several classroom observations, from Kindergarten to fourth grade. I loved being the classroom and being able to interact with children!

One year to go!It was the summer of 2005. I did an entire

semester of summer school enrolled full time, so that I could graduate in the spring of 2006.

Big surprise! In June 2005, my husband and I found out

that we were expecting a baby!

Kimber Nicole HausvaterOur daughter was born on March 20, 2006

I did not return to school after Kimber was born.In May 2006, my husband, Jon, and I purchased a local bar. We ran the bar for 2 years.

PJ Kellys 2006-2008.

Fast Forward to January 2010I finally went back to school. I would

graduate in May with a Regents Bachelor of Arts degree. Finally I had a plan. I would receive my degree, substitute for a few years and work on a new degree that would enable me to teach full time.

May 2010Finally after thirteen years, I finally did it!!

Masters DegreeI ultimately want a full-time teaching

position, so I decided to pursue a Masters Degree in Reading Specialties . I will graduate in May 2012.

RESA VII Substitute Teacher CertificationI completed my RESA certification in

September 2010. I am very excited to be substitute teaching. I think this will better prepare me for a full-time teaching position.

Don’t look back, just move forward.

I am glad that I decided to go back to college and even more excited that I ended up in

graduate school. I never thought that I would graduate with a BA, never the less a masters

degree!
