Joey Klinger, the intern at Lutheran Church of the Holy Communion in Center City Philadelphia has contacted us about a ministry he’s involved in. The Shared Blessings Community Meal is a meal that is served every Friday to help feed those in need in the heart of the city. They generally feed between 60-100 people every week. The congregation, as well as outside donors have always helped to support this meal both financially and through volunteer hours. They are now reaching out to the wider community to gain support for this ministry and help fund it next year. They have launched a gofundme campaign to raise the money for next year's meal. If they can meet their goal, they will not only be able to fund the ministry for another year but also expand it. It’s “sew” easy, even a child can do it. Social Ministry is looking for volunteers to help make easy-to-sew drawstring backpacks for Lutheran World Relief. The bags are already cut out and ready to be stitched up on the sides and top. They’re simple to make. You could easily complete one bag in under ½ hour. Our goal is to finish the bags by summer, fill them with school supplies and ship them off to Lutheran World Relief who will distribute them to children in refugee camps. If you enjoy sewing and you’d like to help, please be in touch with Tilly Hujsak at 610-363-6898 or on email at dickhujsak@verizon.net She can email you the easy-sew instructions. Thank you for helping with this worthwhile project.
Women’s INC has a Question for you, Ladies! We have tentatively scheduled a Sadie Hawkins Dance on Saturday, February 25 here at St. Paul’s. The dance got its name from the Li’l Abner comic strip where Sadie Hawkins Day was a day when unmarried women of Dogpatch got to chase the bachelors and “marry up” with the ones they caught. This concept was popularized in the U.S. by establishing dances where women invite a man (or in this case, even a friend) of her choosing. Sooo, what we need to know is the interest level in attending! Our intent is to have some dances taught that evening, and then free-time to dance, snack, socialize. This will be a “dance through the decades” -- from the 1940s thru the 1970s. We really need to know the level of interest, so please either respond to this email or give the office a call if you may be interested. It is not a reservation. The invitation will be out soon if we get a response. Thanks!!
