Washington Advisory Group, Washington Advisory Group, WAG ReportWAG Report
WAG hired by UT System to evaluate UTEP, UTD, UT Arlington and UT San Antonio$100 million research goal.
UTEP Strengths:– Ability to attract federal funding (2nd in UT System; 5th in State)– Strong research base with quality faculty.
UTEP Challenges:– Additional doctoral programs needed (for instance, Physics and
Chemistry)– Competitive vs. set-aside research funding– New sources of funding—foundations, private sector, etc
Recommendations:– Develop new strategic research plan– More faculty (~300!)– Additional PhD programs– Higher investment by State to Research Infrastructure
Research Task Force GoalsResearch Task Force Goals
Respond to the recommendations in the Washington Advisory Group (WAG) report, divided into two major Subcommittees: – Strategic Research Directions (Roadmap to
Research-Extensive and Top-Tier Status);
– Research Enhancement Mechanisms and
